I did this in CO8 a while back (in windows):

    In Media Pro ...
    1) select a single target image thumbnail (it might be wise to choose one that has a buddy XML file).
    2) select all the keywords in the "Organize Panel" making sure you select the bottoms of the hierarchical keywords to get them all (use the Ctrl key).
    3) right click on the orange highlighted keywords and "Add Term to Selected Media Items"
    4) In the menu choose Action>Export Annotations..., to write the keywords into the buddy XML file of the target image

    In CO8 or CO9 ...
    1) import the target image into your catalog
    2) voila! keywords galore.

Be aware, that there is a limit on how many keywords a single picture can hold. If you have to handle a very large collection of hierarchical keywords, you have to split them and use more than one container picture.
