Resetting the Crop tool
How do you reset the crop tool so that it is unconstrained and I get the actual image size of the crop. And not some fictitious size.

Not much information to generate an answer. So I'll give you a number of guesses.
If you have some 'strange' values when drawing your crop (like fixed numbers, scaled values, etc.), choose a process recipe with 100% fixed image size.
If you are seeing a cropped border around your image that you cannot remove, look into the 'Lens Correction' and disable 'Hide distorted Areas'.
For all the rest, check the settings in the 'Crop' tool, set it to 'unconstrained', and reset it completely.

When in crop mode:
First fit the image to the screen. (Command + 0). Then just click outside the cropped area.
That will reset the crop.
To change the size or aspect ratio:
When in crop mode, right click or "control+click" and set the ratio there. It has an unconstrained selection.0
