One more tool
Made the jump to CaptureOne 7, and really think it is the best raw convertor out there. My typical work flow has Lightroom as the file manager, CaptureOne as the raw convertor/processor, and Photoshop for sharpening, pixel processing, and output.
In spending more time with C1, I am coming to the conclusion that I need just one more tool to do a good job with my raw files. Let me explain.
I typically try to minimize work in the Exposure set, and proceed with the High Dynamic Range adjustments. Unfortunately, these only adjust the highlight and shadow areas. I am more used to being able to directly control highlights, shadows blacks, and whites. Without similar controls in C1, sometimes my attempts seem to have too much of a HDR look, when all I want to do is open up shadows, preserve highlights, and set the black and white levels.
Perhaps there are ways to do this with levels, etc. but that is not as intuitive as direct controls for these elements.
What am I missing?

Levels, yes, for a start. Absolutely. The way to go for black and white point in your image. Next stop: Curve tool. You can make any mood or atmosphere you like. It is a tool you have to get used to, but once you get the hang of it, you'll never go without.
Tip: once you become familiar with Curve, make a range of presets. This will make the Curve tool much more useful and easy to use at the same time.0
