Upgrade Policy on LE
I know the purchase agreement states you get one free upgrade, but what I'd like to know is if that pertains to minor revisions, e.g. from version 3.7.0 to 3.7.1. Or is it just for major versions like 3.7 to 3.8?
One final question, if there is already a new version in beta test does that count towards your one upgrade if you purchase now before it is out?
If you're wondering why I don't ask Phase One; I did, and I got no reply from them. Is there customer support not very good?

DavidF,
Our Customer Technical Support is awesome, thanks for asking! Although I' m a bit biased. 😉
Our Tech Support comes via a submitted Support Case at:
Support Website: http://support.phaseone.com
You will need a web User Profile to be able to do so. Once logged in, you have full access to our system
This system is monitored no less than 17 hours / day M-F and even some weekends and Holidays, so you will get a very timely response to your Case questions and problems.
If you did indeed Create a Case and did not receive a reply, then please provide the Case # so we can understand what happened.
All of the versions you mention are Updates and have all be FREE. Most recent version is soon to be out of 3.7.3
The next chargeable version Upgrade will be 4.0 due in 2nd Quarter of 2006.
Cheers,

Thanks for the reply. I'm happy someone finally got back to me.
Just so I fully understand, if you came out with version 3.8 & 3.9 before the next scheduled 4.0 release, those interim versions would not count against the free upgrade offered with the initial purchase of the product? Am I understanding this correctly?
Thanks again.0 -
DavidF,
You are correct ... IF there are other updates between 3.7.3 and 4.0 they would be Free.
The versions will almost certainly go from 3.7.3 >>> to 4.0 though, and this will be a Chargeable Upgrade.

I've had similar "success" with customer support. I wrote to say
I had a registered version of of Capture & wanted to understand the free upgreade policy to pro mentioned on their site. I remember paying for one of their products but don't remember which because I stopped using the program. However, I offered the following information which I received at the time of purchase:

You have downloaded a free trial version of Capture One PRO. Thank you.
In order to get the most out of your trial period, we suggest that you spend a few minutes reading this email.
Capture One PRO is a RAW workflow application, which means that the files you load into the software must be shot as RAW from one of the following DSLR/Rangefinder cameras or Phase One digital backs click here
RAW files are loaded in from a folder or from a card reader. Learn how to do this by watching the Capture One Getting Started tutorial.
You can access the Getting Started tutorial from Capture One's help menu.
To learn more about Capture One features and functions you can watch the extended Capture One PRO tutorial click here
There is also a full, illustrated guide to all Capture One's capabilities available in the Help menu onscreen.
Enjoy.
Best regards,
Phase One

As you can see, this answer makes no sense at all & assumes that I'm stupid because it goes on to explain what I downloaded. I know what I downloaded. I want to know what the upgrade from the discontinued version of the program is to the pro version. That's the question & I'm still waiting for an answer.0 -
janrif,
This is exactly why there is a Support logging system, so that Product Keys don't get posted for all to see.
You simply downloaded the software, when this is done, it is in a 30-Day Trial Mode until a successful activation. This activation cannot occur until you actually go through the correct process of upgrading from LE to PRO by submitting your LE Product Key and receiving a PRO Product Key in return.
The instructions are quite straightforward and available at web site under Software:
http://www.phaseone.com/Content/Softwar ... ation.aspx
Follow the instructions and you're done.

Not really. I signed in w email address & pw, finally figured out the upgrade was under SE, followed the instructions, entered my product key & it was rejected. Thinking I had entered the wrong number, I entered my registration # & that was rejected as well. You have the #s above so you can check their authenticity. So now what do you suggest?0 -
janrif,
Sorry to have overlooked the obvious - My Bad - 🤭
You Purchased Capture One LE
It is the SE version that has been discontinued and owners of this version have the option of moving to PRO or LE for Free by December 31st.
You can upgrade from LE to PRO for $429.00 - and if you do so before December 31st, you will receive 2 additional camera profiles.

I think some of the confusion is caused by your use of the term "update". Maybe you could update your website to clarify/differentiate free updates from payed updates/upgrades.
So my questions are:
Is this considered a free 'maintenance release'?
As an LE user do I get an unlimited number of maintenance releases or would this be my only (1) "free update"?
This might help prospective purchasers to know that they will receive free updates also.
see your web address: http://phaseone.com/Content/Software/LicensePolicy.aspx
thanks, geoff
ps. thanks for a great program - this absolutely gives the best quality and ease of use of any of the raw converters I've found for my Canon 350D.[quote="Keith Carpenter" wrote:
