Export to Apple Photos?
Hi there,
I'm experimenting with the new Apple Photos and might want to keep a lot of family pix there, etc. Is there a way to export directly from Capture One to Photos? The Photos icon is greyed out when you try to export to that "folder." Any ideas welcome! Thanks.

I imagine you need to make a recipe and then import the files into Photos 0 -
This is my recipe for adding my jpg exports to Photos.

What it does:
Saves as JPG
Quality 80%
sRGB colour space
25% scaled resolution
Open with 'Photos' (which imports that jpg to Photos for me)
It saves the jpg to a special folder which I just trash afterwards since it was already copied to the Photos library folder.0 -

I do it in a very similar way. Except that I wanted to preserve and migrate my whole collection structure within C1 (folder, projects, albums) and have them ported to Photos as well. I don't like the way Photos handles images simply organized by a date timeline, I prefer having a structure with folders and albums in Photos as well. But unfortunately you cannot import a folder/album structure into Photos directly as only the images get imported and not the folder/album structure ... shame on Apple 🤭
One time migration from C1 to Photos:
1. Therefore I did a one time export of my images within C1 with a recipe that gave me a folder structure with folders representing my current C1 Albums and the related images inside. For doing this I used the handy new 'Image Folder Name' token in the Sub Folder section within the C1 export recipe. (Side note: in my case I only wanted to have my 4+ stars images ported to Photos as I did not want all those 45'000+ images to duplicate into Photos). My Photos app will only be a viewer and synchroniser to my iOS devices in the future. There will be no editing and further processing there in Photos. For the later I use the wonderful C1 with all it's possibilities for organising and editing and its cutting edge technology.
2. After that C1 export I imported all the images into iPhoto, yes iPhoto not Photo (you could also use Aperture ... I am coming from Aperture btw) by simply dragging and dropping the folder structure to it. This gave me a nice organized folders and albums structure inside iPhoto.
3. Now the last step was to import that iPhoto library into Photos and with that I luckily got that folder/album structure into Photos.
From now on I will only have to create new and additional folders and albums in Photos and import new images with the method and recipe described by 'FirstName'.
Hope this helps.

Great to see some others thinking the same way as me. I plan on combining C1 with Photos too. In addition to using Photos as a way to sync processed JPG versions of my better (4 & 5 star) photos to an iPhone and iPad, I'm tempted to include 3 star images too and use iCloud Photo Library as my definitive "internet backup".
I will create a recipe that has a 2880x1800 resolution (15" retina screen), but wasn't sure whether 80% JPG quality would be high enough for such a 'definitive backup'. Why 80% @FirstName? What % do you use @AndyE? Can anyone else advise?
I also have a local Time Machine backup for my C1 catalogue and original RAW files.0 -
I use 80% because the 'save as for web' option in photoshop defaults to 'high' which is 80% and I am used to that. My jpgs are not my back ups, just images for displaying on the web 😄 0 -
Hey, fantastic! I just set that up and it worked like a charm -- on the first try! I just put the output folder on my desktop, and I'll empty it after the images are imported into Photos. That's terrific. Thanks for the help! 0 -
And then I figured out that, to get the images into different output folders, I had to go to the "root folder" under the "file" tab of the output recipe. So now I can have different output images going to different places. Cool! Thanks again! 0 -
Good on ya mate 😊 Glad I could help. It really is a cool way to display your images especially if syncing across devices. 0 -

Thanks, I think I just need to experiment with the quality % to determine what is enough for me 😊
On a totally separate question, I can't see how to add an avatar / profile image to my Forum account. Is this a restricted feature or am I missing something obvious? 🙄

I must be being dumb, I can't see an upload button, and dragging an image onto the box (screen shot in my last post) doesn't work either... 😕0 -
I can't see your screen shot. 0 -
Oh, the screenshots that I've been posting on the forums for the last month have only been visible to me! I see now that I needed to host the images in my Public Dropbox folder.
When I go to Edit Avatar, I get three buttons, 'Display gallery', 'Reset' and 'Submit'. If I click 'Display gallery' a 'LOCAL GALLERY' section gets added underneath, but I still see no 'Browse' or 'Upload' type options.

Yours does look the same as mine, I just can't remember how I managed to get the image in there ☹️ can you drag it into the box ? 0 -
No, unfortunately that just opens the image in the browser, replacing the forum page. I wonder if they have rescinded this feature ☹️ 0
