Persistent Crashes in 4.x and 5.x on MacBook Pro

C1 crashes regularly on MacBook Pro- in both C1 4 and now 5. Most recently both peices of software have been unable to import a full 16GB CF (SanDisk 30MB/s Card via a FW800 SanDisk reader) card crashing while the thumbnails are loading usually when around 800 or so thumbnails have loaded on the importer tool. Other than this import issue C1 randomly crashes during use. Any thoughts on this? Everything works fine on MacPro but i have constant problems with my MacBook Pro. The model is 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB of Apple supplied RAM.
