open adobe dng C0 4.8.3
Before I knew enough about RAW-Files I converted them into Adobe dng. Is there a possibility to exposure and convert them into tiff's for the further workflow in PS CS4? I do not like the PS Raw-Converter

CO4 and 5 can open DNG raw files. Note that Adobe DNG converter have settings like compression (lossless or not) that might get in the way in CO4 or 5 but I have not tested this lately so that could be a problem less to worry perhaps. Just try before you buy (in case you haven't). 0 -
Dear Paul,
thank you for your quick answer. If I try to open the uncompressed DNG files in CO4.8.3 it crashes without the chance to do anything. Do I have to open the files before CO4 in Adobe RAW converter?

I extracted the original NEF- files from the DNG-files - and everything is ok.
Thank you very much anyway!

CO4.x does not like uncompressed Adobe DNG converted RAWs, lossless compressed should work though. Original NEFs even better! 0 -
Why does Phase One support proprietary Raws like NEF and CR2 but not documented formats like DNG?
I'm not being antagonistic. Just interested if it's a technical reason or business/political reason.

The pain is in the word 'documented'. That is what Adobe want us (users) to believe regarding DNG towards camera manufacturers and 3rd party software developers. However DNG raw is documented but very ill documented. It is a non-standard standard. The problem is that writing to DNG raw is not documented in detail but in general. Exchange of settings within DNG is therefore not guaranteed between software hence every 3rd party software developer stays away from writing to DNG (only Adobe is implementing this for Adobe).
Proprietary raws like you mention are meticulously documented by their respective owners and Phase One only support their format when their owner supports Phase One.
The only types of DNG that really work (I will get flamed now... 😉) are raw DNG direct from the camera and linear DNG (these are not raw anymore but demosaiced and not supported by Capture One).0
