I believe the C1p preview files can only be read by Capture One (maybe Keith can confirm this). Which of the following files you still have access to?: - The original raw camera files
- The C1 outputted JPG / TIFF files
- The C1W and C1P files in the preview folder

I tryed renaming the JPG has about size 1.2 mil but can't read it
and also C1 file tryed rename that file still no luck.0 -
Normand,
Dominic is correct, these files are used and understood by Capture One only.
In the Preview Cache, a JPEG is created when you browse a JPEG in a Session. This is a Proxy image for Capture One and if you try to open, it will error.
Some have salvaged a lost RAW image this way:
> You still have the .C1p file or Preview
> Display it in Capture One
> F9 for Maximize Preview
> Capture a ScreenShot, PrtScn on keyboard
> Paste into new in Photoshop and see if the image you get will suffice.

I am in the exact same situation - I lost some VERY important photos due to a physically damaged hard disc (the backup only runs once a week...)
I no longer have the RAW (cr2) file, but I do have the .C1p (and .C1w) file.
Unfortunately you lost me in your second step: "Display it in Capture One" - how do you do that?
First I selected the preview directory, and C1 said "this collection is currently empty". Then I copied all the C1P files to a temporary directory, but I got the same result.
What is the proper procedure to make CaptureOne display these previews?

John,
Sometimes the Thumbnail and Preview will display even if the RAWs have been removed.
It seems if the Preview Cache is set to Never clean-up and the program is Not Closed this will occur.
It has worked for a few in this situation.
IF they will display, and you hit F9 for Full Screen View, a PrtScn will 'capture' the preview and you may be able to salvage an image this way.
Sincerely,
