funny that nobody seems to have the answer...
i found out that some of this is actually built into C1....a session can be imported into a MP SE catalog in the library tab within C1...rightclick on session album to add it to a MP SE catalog....or at least that is how it should work...it does not do it for me....C1 9.2.1 installed and the latest version of MP SE.....MP SE opens but nothing happens....
there is also an option under C1 file :create MP catalog with all images....and that does work, creates a new catalog in MP...
this catalog can of course be imported into an existing catalog within MP SE...

a couple of things: the import is crazy fast, 1300 images into a new catalog in 10? sec? including all metadata....the bad: the thumbs are VERY crude and don't seem to be color managed.....maybe this takes time and happens in the background....seeing the actual media takes time....all this on a MBP i7 2.8 with 1TB ssd....

will keep playing with this, iview multimedia was my first DAM centuries ago and was rocksolid then...looks like this might be the answer for me again....
