    Nevermind.
    I figured it out.
This could come in handy when wanting to apply the same settings to different photo sessions from one given day to the next.

It could also be compared to creating \"style sheets\" for text in a page layout program. Very clever. I like this.

rudebega, glad you like this new feature. We think users will be quite creative using it ~ kc

Styles is a new concept in Capture One, that lets you apply certain looks to the images.
Styles are intended as a tool for creative photographers, and makes it possible to reuse previous styles on other similar images.

Styles are available from the pop-up menu in the top toolbar in the main window, and is visible regardless of what tool is being used.

Phase One provides a series of predefined style which can be saved from the pop up menu

Whenever a style is saved it will be available below the predefined list in the pop-up menu

Styles are actually image settings combined in a separate Styles file, and can be reused on other images.
The save dialog, that pops up when a style is saved shows what settings are saved in a style

Each settings that you want saved in a style can be toggled on and of by clicking the checkboxes in this dialog.

To be available in the application the styles are stored in the user folder ~/Library/Application Support/Phase One/Styles/
By copying the styles to the above folder on another computer or under another user, the styles can be transferred and reused in another context.
    Best regards

Thanks Michelle, there will be a Knowledge Base article on this new feature very soon.

Keith. I really like the new styles.. But there is an error. Once you set a style you have to go to another window to disable it? Would be handy to be able to revert to no custom profile with out having to go to the histogram window and reset all settings.. Maybe it is something you all overlooked..
In other words if you choose like 70's look then you want to go back to the original with out any\"style\" you can not revert ...
    Thanks,

    E.K. -

To reset or Revert to the original image settings, select the Neutral exposure choice of the Select style pulldown.

After clicking Neutral exposure the image still apears slightly darker than before. I've duplicated the image so that I can go back and forth, but the two images just never look the same again. I've tried this on two different comuter and the same thing happens.

    Paul,
I tried the same, with same result... then I applied Neutral AND reset the WB settings to default and it was back to original for me.
Give this a try and let me know the results.

    Sincerely,

I do also. That is why I posted the problem.. You have to go to the histogram setting and click on reset all settings... which stinks b/c you have to go to another window and back..
Maybe think about fixing that in the future.. But I think it is really cool you guys are trying new things!!!

This is an interesting thread. I think that the problem has arisen because of the way the default styles have been defined: It appears that all of the styles, including the Neutral Exposure style, are based on a H25 tone curve. While this isn't a problem with the other styles, it is a problem if you want to use Neutral Exposure as a reset-all option (unless you are using an H25!). If you are using a Canon body, for example, Neutral Exposure will leave you with a different tonality to that which is applied to new images by default.

To work as a reset-all option, Neutral Exposure needs to be re-specified with all the camera-specific elements taken out. However, I don't think this is actually possible. I can't see a way that you can reset-everything back to the defaults for *all* camera bodies using a style (since tone curves are camera specific).

So instead, we need a function programmed into the Style menu that will reset the settings of the current selected images back to the camera-specific defaults. In other words, a 'No style applied' opiton, as the original poster said. Until then, a workaround is to define your own Neutral Exposure style based on the defaults for your camera.

It would also be very useful if a Preference could be added so that you can specify which style is applied to new images by default (especially if the preference would enable you to select a style you have defined yourself as the default for all new images).

It works. Created a style base on one of our original photos and applied it to a photo that I had previously applied a style to and it reset the photo.
