If you have installed the latest C1 then try moving the folders from within C1, in the Folders section of the Library tool.

There was a know bug in the previous version that prevented C1 from moving across drives, that may have been fixed in 12.0.4 If its fixed, its the easiest way to do it.

If that doesn't work, then your only chocide is to use finder, and then use the locate function in the Folders section of the Library.tool to help C1 find the folders again.

what is the best way of doing this? moving the folder in the finder and pointing to it from within C1?

If you are using a sessions rather than a catalogues then, subject to the words of cautions that Eric supplied re using external drives, copying the folder and their subfolders to the external drive via any method available in C1, possibly drag and drop for example, should work and update the sessions record of related folders.

If you copy the folder and sub-folders using the system OS they can also be re-associated with the session by making the folder "Favourites". In fact any folder can be 'permanently' associated with a session by making it a Favourite.

You could also consider moving the entire session to an external drive thus making archive management of the session much easier. It is a particularly useful way to work with sessions that are complete as far as your expectations for editing are concerned.
