Adjusting one file to match another

When I place two pictures side by side in the main window , if I try to adjust the colour/density etc of one... to match the other I can't. Both pictures follow the same instruction whether in Curves or White Balance:(

I am at a loss to see how to do this in C1 and was wondering if I am the only one with this particular problem ❓
