Feature Request - Fisheye Lens Correction Support (again)
I opened a support case on Dec 3, 2010, exactly two years ago for Capture One Pro Version 6. 731 days later, Capture One Version 7 still does not have the fisheye support. During this time, I upgraded to Capture One Version 6 and have been waiting for this feature to appear in last two years. The support case seemed to have fallen off the earth.
Attached below is the support case. I cannot open another support case as I am still using Capture One Version 6 and have not yet upgraded to Capture One Version 7.

Thank you for the reply.
I really like C1's all-in-one interface and would like to see the Fisheye correction added.
Please accept the Fisheye correction as a new feature request for future releases (hopefully soon).
Thank you!

Nelson,
With such a wide lens, it is hard to correct fully in Capture One. Although I can not work on this image, please keep experimenting with the tools in Capture One.

Hi Phase One Support Team,
Thank you for the reply. Yes I have tried the lens correction tool using the Generic profile. The Generic Pincushion Distortion makes the fisheye image worse. I did exactly according to the manual, the pillars are almost straight. The image is almost there.
I am attaching a Canon RAW (.CR2) file for you to test. If you can come up with (nearly) straight pillars, please send me the output so I can compare with the output from DxO.
Thank you!

Nelson,
As of now I can not comment on what will be released in the future. However, have you tried using the lens correction tool? This could give you some added benifits that perhaps you have overlooked. Detailed instruction of this tool can be found in the manual starting on page 49. Here is a link to download the Capture One 6 Manual:

Thank you for your loyalty.

I am a registered user of Capture One Pro 3, 4 and 5. For some reason, the serial number is not showing up in my profile.
I have been evaluating C1 Pro 6.0 vs DxO Optics Pro 6.0 in regarding to the fisheye distortion correction capabilities, commonly known as "de-fish".
The C1 Pro 6.0 adds the keystone correction which is a welcome addition but does not correct the curvatures generated by a fisheye lens such as the Canon 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye, on a full frame DSLR such as the Canon 5D Mark II. For example, if an interior photo was taken in a cathedral, the pillars will remain curved after enabling the distortion processing in C1 6.0 while the same CR2 file can be corrected in DxO to look like it was taken with a rectilinear wide angle lens with straight but slanted pillars. The slanted pillars can be corrected with the keystone correction feature presented in both products.
Before I upgrade to Capture One Pro 6.0, I would like to know if the full "de-fish" feature will be implemented?
Thank you for your support!

Nelson Chen

Can anyone from PhaseOne comment on this?
What is the proper channel to submit a feature request?
Was the feature request that I submitted through support case #81917 in December 2010 (two years ago) lost between the support and the development organizations?
Best regards,
Nelson0 -

You don't need to be using version 7 to open a support request for a feature. 😉0 -

Are you sure? A product key is needed to open support cases. Since version 6 is obsolete, wouldn't a version 7 key is needed to request a new feature?
Opening a support case two years ago to request this feature in CO6 got us no where. Do you think opening another one now would help?0 -

You can create a support case even when running a trial version, no problem. Of course that also goes for a v6 license key.0 -

Thank you for the reply. However, I already opened a support case (#81917 in December 2010) requesting this feature two years ago.
Does the old support case become obsolete?
Do we have to keep opening new support cases to request the same feature?0 -
You could open your existing case on this and refer to this thread. 0 -
Please don't take offense, but I'm curious why you would shoot with a fisheye lens in the first place if you knew you intended to digitally de-fish it later? Seems like you'd be better off either shooting several images with correct angles and stitching them (a.k.a. a "panorama shot"), or using a very-wide angle lens with very-low barrel distortion.
Most people I know that shoot with a fish-eye shoot that way because they want the fish-eye effect. 😊0 -

None taken. Some of the fisheye images do not need to be de-fished but some do. I use fish as a superwide angle lens to shoot interior of churches or big halls such as the Parliament Building in Budapest.
Shooting multiple images and stitching them would be another way to go but doing so would require a tripod and consistent exposure and WB, not to mention posting processing time. There are times I cannot use tripod and a fisheye lens is quite useful as a UWA lens. It is wider than the Canon 14m rectilinear lens and much lighter to travel with.0 -

Thank you, Paul.
I added a comment to the old support case, 81917. Hope it works. I just hate to open another identical support case and wait two more years to find out nothing has been done.0 -
I got a response for my reopened support case #81917. They support team asked me to submit a sample image shot with the 15mm fisheye lens and I submit the same one I used two years ago to be consistent. 0
