    Peter,
This could indicate the software was not closed down properly and it still thinks the Catalog is open by another user.
Sometimes we see this when the catalog is on an external device (Hard Drive, Network, etc) and that device either does not allow proper permissions to the user or was perhaps disconnected prior to quitting the software.

And it happens every time MP crashes with the catalog open.
Which, btw, is about 1-2x per week for me.

Earlier today, I had this happen when I double clicked on a catalog. However, when I opened it via file>open it work as it should.

I have the same problem when I open a catalog. A message says it's in use by another application, etc. I am using OS10.8.5 on a MacBook Air (late 2010) and the latest version of Media Pro 1.4.1.6......Even though it says "read only" I can open the catalog and do normal manipulations. I tried trashing the preference and settings file in my user library to no avail. Any answers yet?

    Thanks, Bill
