The newer version of OS X are getting more and more secure in what areas they allow applications to touch.

You might start by looking in System Preference->Security & Privacy and then look through the various options like Full Disk Access, Files and Folders, etc.....unlock those with your admin password and make sure Capture One has the access it needs...

There's a lot of things in there that you might look at and make sure is set correctly.

    Hope that helps!!

Are those RAWs or jpegs? If they are jpegs, do they have a color profile? And if they have some weird or unusual color profile what if you convert the color profile to sRGB for example? Also, what are the dimensions of the images? I think CO won't let you do any editing if an image has a dimension smaller than 550px or 600px. (Not sure the exact value).

Also, try to transfer the images onto your computer and then import them or open them with CO. Does the same issue happen?

Are you importing the images or trying to open the folder from within  C1 and then drag them?

It occurs to me that it may just be possible that waht you are doing leaves C1 thinking you want to edit the the images in situ on the SD card (possible if using a Session but not to be recommended) and the 2device"  - SD card - is not a valid drive for that as far as your system is concerned.
