Where are image adjustments stored in capture one?

    There are several answers.

If you use a catalog image adjustments are in the catalog, a database containing information about every image in you catalog.  This can grow quite large.

If you use a session image adjustments are in a file located in sub-folders of the Capture One folder automatically created when you create the session or visit a folder from inside the session.  When you copy the entire session folder you get images and adjustments.

If you've enabled the Pack as EIP option image adjustments and the image are saved in an EIP file which is basically a zipped file containing the image and related files.   You can move an EIP file around and be sure that you have everything.   EIP is only available for raw image formats when using sessions.

I've probably forgotten something.  Perhaps other users can fill in what I missed.

Thank you Marco. So in case I use the EIP or Session, does that mean I can copy over the details fully and use them in either Mac or Windows?

I was looking/searching for both the Session and EIP settings and understand it a little more in detail however there are very limited posts that I can find in relation to this .. I just want to be very sure I can use it across in different systems and continue with where I last left with editing.

If you pack the images as EIP files then that's all you need. The adjustments will be stored within that file itself. But if you don't want them converted to EIPs then you will have to copy/move... the entire session in order for the adjustments to show correctly on any other pc/os/version...

Personally, I'd recommend using EIP files. EIP files can only be opened/viewed with Capture One Pro, no matter on which platform.

Only problem you might run into is when using different versions of Capture One. For example, you make your adjustments in COP 13.1 then you want to view the eip file on windows that has COP 12 for instance

I'm a bit new to C1, but here's my understanding to add onto this.

If you use catalogs to do your "development"...the changes are generally stored in the catalog, another database similar to sessions, but different and the two do not talk to each other.

You can import sessions into a catalog and from that point on, you use the catalog database, not the seasons one...the catalog gets gets fed what was in the session, but that's the end of it.

You can also set C1 to write out the changes you make to .xmp side car files.  These are the secondary files you often see with other DAMs, where the adjustments are kept.

I believe in preferences, if you are using a catalog and that's the way I'm going as my primary way of cataloging everything....you can go in there and change settings so that all your adjustments are sent to .xmp sidecar files.

You should then be able to move the image file (RAW or otherwise) and it's accompanying .xmp file between computers with C1 on them and work on them either place.

Again, I'm a bit of a noob, but I believe this is another way of how things can work.

I believe rather than xmp sidecar files, you can also ship the images out like mentioned before and use the EIP method and it should work with C1 catalogs too.

From what I can gather, the sessions are the legacy database method, primary used back then and now, for tethered work.

It seems from what I read and YouTube tutorials and videos, that the preferred method now, is to use catalog(s)....maybe a catalog per year even....to be your primary database.

I think what I"m going to be doing is, when I have my laptop out to shoot tethered, I"l have a sessions template and do my shooting and maybe even first round culling there.

Then, I'll bring the laptop back to my wired network and the import the sessions from there, into my Mac Pro workstation, and import that into my catalog....and then all subsequent work from there will be done there.

Anyway, hope some of this makes sense or at least gives you more fuel for research to see how best to set up your C1 workflow.
