Capture One 20 and Affinity Photo
-
Hello,
It looks like windows stores its Store apps in c:\windows\Programme Files\WindowsApps\
This folder is not normally accessible but the website below gives away around the access issue. Note that it does hint at some risk around granting yourself access to this folder, so consider it first and be aware. I would also note down the permissions on the folder before doing it so you can revert out any changes. I bought Affinity from the company rather than through MS Store, so I don't know if this will help or not, but worth a try if you consider the risk to be acceptable.

Before you do the above, you may want to see if the below procedure helps:

Personally I would go for the refund and buy it from Serif directly.

Hi Mark
Thanks for that response and the useful information. Unfortunately neither option worked for me. Briefly, there is no file to point to when following the second option (all accessible app folders are empty, except one file which is of no relevance). I did follow through the first option and uncovered the hidden installation files (including the .exe file) and re-assigned file permissions to myself. Or so i thought. However even having accessed the .exe file it still could not be used to open Affinity. Even though i thought i had granted myself permission, every time i tried to open it there was an error message denying permission. I am not very tech savvy so maybe this will work for someone else. But you do have to mess about with stuff you probably don't want to, and really shouldn't have to, mess about with.
So, it still seems that MS app store bought versions of Affinity will not work as part of an integrated workflow with Capture One.
I don't think its anyone's fault, its just the nature of the technology. I kind of think though that maybe this glitch could be better publicised.

I agree that people should not have to mess around with these things, they should just work. For a flip of a coin I would have been in the same situation, I considered buying from MS also when I moved to Affinity... If you can i would get your money back from MS and buy it from Serif. I use Affinity occasionally and it seems to work well with C1 in a round trip workflow. Unfortunately not if bought through Microsoft Store it would seem. Hope you get it sorted out.

Thanks for posting Gordon a warning note for all. The motto of the story is never purchase anything from the MS Store if it's available direct. Silly situation for MS as it's not going to encourage anyone to us the store. Very easy for them to fix but I guess they won't be interested.
