Shooting tethered on Leica SL
ImplementedAs a commercial photographer working to deliver the best possible results, I know I am speaking on behalf of a significant user group. The SL gives remarkable results in professional imaging, the SL2 even more so. These camera’s are taking a leap in the industry as high end mirrorless systems, also due to the L-mount alliance. Convinced Leica SL users are forced to use Lightroom for tethering in a studio environment, and conversely convinced Capture One users will not work with Leica due to the same issue.
A workaround using a hot folder via Image Shuttle can be done, tethering is also possible via Lightroom. Using these systems is a real waste of potential; the combination of Capture One on Leica gives outstanding results in texture and colour – far exceeding the results of Lightroom in combination with the SL.
As both Capture One and Leica user, using Lightroom or Image Shuttle to tether via a hot folder is a major step back. in output quality and workflow. Besides stability issues, copying from previous adjustments, pre-loading styles is another draw back of the workaround, besides not loading the new image onto the active screen and the time it takes to load new files. To mention a few aspects. The file support of the DNG files from Leica of Capture One do put allot right - the incredible colour, texture, editing possibilities and raw-processing of the files still make CO the software of choice.
This draw backs make it understandable to prefer for example a Canon set-up when tethering for example, a set up I often hear of and also do myself. A real waste of technical and visual potential though - Firstly investing into high end glass and a magnificent work horse camera to attain a specific look, then to scale down to Canon, pushing photographers towards lesser tools to enable a solid work flow that enable customer involvement.
To Frank Schroeter, Michael Greszta and Christian Grüner I have reached out with this very question. I have raised the same issue to Leica, also in behalf of a large user group.
I am looking to
1) convince Leica to invest in developing a similar Plug in for tethered capture between Capture One and the Leica SL as you have done for Lightroom
2) convince Capture One to reach out to Leica for cooperation to make this development possible
3) otherwise point in a direction that can open the next door to making this possible
My sincere regards,
Jeroen Paling

Hi Jeroen,
Thank you for your comments and suggestions.
This request was forwarded to the Product Management team and the R&D team.
Whilst we cannot comment on future releases, we take all suggestions on board and hopefully your feedback contributes towards a future version of Capture One.

I would like to add my support to Jeroen Palings request. As a long time Capture One user and advocate, it seems a real shame to have to change my workflow, or god forbid move back to Lightroom just to have a tether option in my studio. My choice of camera system should not change the software I use to process the files. I am moving into a Leica SL2 camera alongside my Fuji GFX 50s and any thought of having two software and file management systems running at once just leaves me cold. The hot folder option sort of works but it really hamstrings the CO features and my clients are not happy as the images do not refresh as shot.
Please CO and or Leica make this a thing. Let us use your amazing tools together and in harmony!

+100, please add support for Leica SL. I also own a Phase One 100MP camera (in addition to my SL).
