Capture one 20 catalogs are dead slow and take in hours to do small work

    I don't have this issue, my catalogue has around 300k images and seems fine. I would suggest that you verify the catalogue to check the integrity of the catalogue.

    I would also suggest that you create a new catalogue and see if the behaviour on startup is the same, this may indicate if it is a problem with the application installation or with the catalogue itself.

    I set my catalogue to backup and optimise on a regular basis, if you don't do this I would recommend that you think about doing it.

    Entirely personal, but Sessions are the solution to large catalogs for me.   Individual tidy little portable catalogs you can move to different drives or wherever you may need them.   Even handy for backing up.

    I left the catalog approach behind shortly after moving from Lightroom years ago.
