Tethered Auto Focus in Capture One 20 not working like previous versions
I've been using Capture One professionally for over a decade, and when a camera is tethered, you hit Command+K on the computer, the camera auto focuses, then the photo is taken. In Capture One 20, it seems to no longer do that auto-focus step and the only thing I've found is that I have to select the AF button on the Camera Focus menu first before capturing with Command+K. Is there a menu option somewhere that I am missing that needs to be turned on so it works like older versions? Seems like a weird feature to remove and strange to add an extra step to a very common workflow.
I don't believe my tech specs matter because when i have capture one 12 running, it works normally, and when i open up capture one 20, it no longer works. However, here is what I'm working with:

Just to confirm what you have described ...
To get Autofocus to work and be followed by an immediate image capture you have to set the camera control in C1 to select Auto Focus mode?
So basically AF is not assumed automatically on the virtual Ctrl-K shortcut?
Have you already seen this earlier post - not sure if it is the same or a similar problem that may suggest somthings for you to investigate but I thought it was worth mentioning.
Also maybe check the LIve View AF mode settings? I don't have a 5D4 so cannot check to see if you see something different to me maybe related to camera functionality.
Maybe compare V12 and V20 settings to see if there are any differences ?

Any updates on this? We are struggling with this too in a very high production studio. Capturing from the keyboard will not initiate auto focus, we must touch the shutter release on the camera or use the 'Camera Focus' Tool in the software in order to obtain focus. Seems like a fundamental necessity that has been overlooked.

Yeah, I've checked all settings and everything is the same. Camera auto focuses when capturing via keyboard on every version except 20. I've given up and just gone back to using 12 cause theres work that needs to get done.

No, it's a complete failure on Capture one's side, hence the absolute silence from support... The least they can do is say yes, we have a problem, blame it on Canon, whatever, just acknowledge it and tell us we have a plan down the road, something!!! The workaround I/we use is to create a floating tool for focus, so it's always in your way, and hopefully, you won't miss focusing before saving the final file.

I had high hopes that maybe they gave up on 20 and fixed this in Capture One 21. Downloaded the trial. Still has this problem. I don't think I'm ever gonna leave Capture One 12 now. I'm so disappointed in this industry standard program.

but for what it's worth- I do have a workaround for anyone having this issue.
Go into the keyboard shortcut editor. type auto into the search. I cleared auto-adjust (command+L) because I don't think that function has ever been useful. Down on the search results for auto is Start/Stop Autofocus. changed that to command+L. Now I capture from keyboard by holding command and pressing L then K. It's only one extra button press, but one more than I used to have to do

We have had the same issue. We had to buy another capture one pro licence to increase the very high volume product photography workstations we have in use. The problem is just as described above. I think going forward we will have to look for alternatives. We just need tethering software that has overlay on a separate screen which autofocuses when we take picture, just like capture one 12. I wonder how many users they have put off future versions? We cannot operate like this - too many shots would be slightly blurry when focus is not presses be fore shoot. So dumb!

Another option is to use Keyboard Maestro with my script which will allow you to use any SINGLE key instead of Apple's Keyboard Shortcuts that require a key combination or only a Function key. I know some studios like to use the "Enter" key" which is all the way to the right on a full-size keyboard. Remember, in C1Pro you will need to set up the edit keyboard shortcut for "Start/Stop Camera Autofocus". In this case, I designated the period "."
The cool thing about Keyboard Maestro is that the script command line runs from inside Keyboard Maestro. There is no need to install a script via C1Pro.

It's great work but we found it easier just to run capture one 12. It works without any complexities.
Capture one need to learn some Canon API tricks from these guys - mode360.com - their modevid software (free for tethering BTW) allows you to move the canon AF point around the screen - works a treat!
