Capture One 20 exporting TIFFs slowly
I do focus-stacking photography professionally. I have a fast Windows computer with an i9 processor at 4.4 GHz on all 10 cores and two Nvidia 1080TI GPUs. I use Zerene Stacker software to do the focus stacking and it requires TIFFs. We use Capture One because of its superb colour rendering and it's hardware accelleration, which uses the power of the GPUs and saves a lot of time in our workflow.
The system usually exports a 50-megapixel 16-bit TIFF in slightly less than a second. A stack of 200 such images is common and I have stacked up to 750 in a single stack.
All was fine until more recent updates to Capture One 20. All of a sudden a stack of 194 was taking 14 minutes, instead of about three. Colleagues around the world are experiencing the same problem, along with camera connection problems.
After doing all the updates possible and thinking it was a system problem, a colleague in New Zealand advised rolling back to Capture One 12. This fixed my problems instantly.
He also suggested trying the first release of Capture One 20. After uninstalling and installing that version, I did this and for a while it was OK, as long as I opened a brand new catalogue. Then I had to re-export some images from a slightly earlier catalogue and things were slow again. Going back to the new catalogue speeded up the next export but then everything went slow again. I tried new catalogues and sessions with no success.
There is no Hardware acceleration warning and that setting is definitely on auto. Reverting to Capture One 12 gives a fourfold increase in speed.
I have wasted nearly two weeks trying to fix this and had to ring a colleague in the US because he was stuck installing a new system on the other side of the country that suddenly wouldn't deliver expected performance or connect to his camera. This was despite extensive pre-installation testing.
I am not happy. I may as well not have spent the money to upgrade to C1 20 at work and on my home account.

Have you also shared your experience with Support? As you might know, this is a user-to-user forum.

Perhaps hardware acceleration is not working correctly.
What comparative export times do you get with hardware acceleration set to Never?
Maybe try deleting:
C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\CaptureOne\ImageCore
as mentioned in the tread here:

Thanks Paul, I realised this might be better to ask Support about and have now done so.
gb, it seems so strange that hardware acceleration was working, if it suddenly stopped and that it would work again in C1 12 with no other changes. I am on leave and then working from home till later this week. So I will wait to hear what Support says and then try again at work. I was looking at that other thread too and thinking that's worth trying. Thanks,
Geoff
