Capture 21 Fuji Express won't open Catalog from anywhere but default location
Hi I'm new to Capture One Express
On start up the software asks me to 'Choose Capture One Catalog' this works if I just click 'New Catalog'. If I browse on start up and try any other location the program just closes. When I re-open it asks me to Choose Capture One Catalog.
If I move the new Catalog from the pictures folder to anywhere else. On start up it'll asks me to 'Choose Capture One Catalog' if I browse and select the Catalog from it's new location the software quits
My aim is to store my Catalog on an external HD.
Any advice on what I'm doing wrong? I've uninstalled and reinstalled a few times and deleted the Catalogs. I'm using a 2012 MBP macOS Catalina 10.15.7

This is indeed a CO 21 Express for Mac issue. It does not exist in 20 nor in Express 21 on Windows.
I reported the issue already.
I suggest you use the Capture One Catalog in the default location. As soon as the issue is resolved, you can move the catalog and relocate on opening Capture One.
Apart from the issue, you know you can have the catalog on your internal drive and your images on the external drive? That would be my preferred setup, but you may have reasons to choose otherwise.

Ah thanks for taking the time to explain this Paul!
I thought all the photos and data was saved in the Catalog like Aperture did in the past. I did some research last night and now I have a better understanding as to how Capture One works.I've now got my test images on an external HD and the Catalog is stored in the default location.
Out of interest why is your preferred set up like this and not having both the Catalog and photos stored on the external HD?
