C1 21 Trial Pre Purchase question
I downloaded a trial of C1-21 to see if it would work with Apple Big Sur OS X on an Intell iMac Pro. It does. But then the critical test is will it work and can it tether with a Canon 1Dx and 5DsR using USB4 to USB3 (A) adaptor on an APPLE MAC BOOK AIR running the new Apple M1 chip. I know that C1 is not optimized as a universal app (yet) and is likely running on Rosetta - (eventually it will have to run with the Mx chips from Apple if they want to keep Apple customers I would imagine - so I am assuming that is coming) but for now, this laptop replaces an older 2010 Mac Book Pro 17 inch running a much older version of C1 Pro. The good news is that C1-21 installed and launches - no crashes, no hang-ups. On Big Sur the image on the screen does shimmy or stutter a bit adjusting images - it isn't smooth and real-time as it should be... but that is not the reason I am writing today. It is tethering. The first test is the unsupported Canon 1Dx - good news - it connects via the aforementioned adaptor. And it captures images into C1-21 - so it does work with the M1 silicon and it does work with Big Sur OS. But the trial version I have only allows one image to be kept in the thumbnails. Each successive photo taken overwrites the previous and there are X's on the top and bottom of the captured image. PLEASE tell me that this is a limitation of the trial and that once I purchase C1-21, I will be capturing every photo I take and they will all be in the thumbnail strip of that session and in the database. And there will be no x's marking the images (which I assume means they can't be saved because it is a trial ????) Please confirm. Now to test tethering with Adobe Lightroom (just in case). THank you for a quick reply (as I can't seem to find a contact for customer support)

**UPDATE to above**
I am not sure what changed, maybe someone from Capture One can explain why I was getting the x's in my captured images and why each new capture was overwriting the previous with my Canon 1Dx?
But here is the updated testing. Hooking up the Canon 5DsR and there were no X's on the captured images in the same session - AND I was able to keep each shot captured and build thumbnails for each shot. I was successful with both cameras in Adobe Lightroom too. So my assumption was that the 1Dx which isn't a supported camera in the later C1 releases was the issue. To test that theory I hooked up the 1Dx and launched C1 Pro 21 again and began taking tethered photos. Not one came in with an x and each was kept in the session (thumbnails). Yes, I am perplexed. Can a Capture one Representative explain what may have been happening with the initial problem (this would be helpful if I am on location tethering a shoot and this problem occurs again. BTW in such a scenario, without knowing why, or the fix, in a shoot circumstance, I would immediately switch to Lightroom as a back-up redundancy. Thanks for a reply and explanation, a fix in the event this occurs again. (other than that - the good news is everything is working with the Apple M1 and Big Sur.0 -
Jeff,
If you see the Xs and only have one image visible in Tether mode it means you have the "Composition Mode" active.
Using the Search facility in the Community you should find more information that I can provide. Basically it is to allow people to manage studio composition work where such requirements exist.
As for asking to C1 staff comments ... it may be useful to know that this is, primarily, a User to User forum.
Any tome you may feel a need to to obtain direct support to questions or for problems the appropriate course of action is to use the "Submit a request" option found at the top of most Community pages and usually at the bottom of FAQ pages and articles.
That way you get a case reference number and personal contact with staff.
I hope that helps. Enjoy your tethering!

@SFA - thank you and that makes sense to me. Appreciate your reply. I have full confidence in Capture One with the new Apple Silicone chipset and the latest OS X. It is amazingly quick and responsive even with 50mp sensor files. I worked again on the little 13 inch Mac Book Air (non-pro laptop) with color layers and gradients and there was never a stutter or hesitation. So going on location with Capture One to tether a shoot or edit a day's captures for client approval can be done so for me with full confidence. It Is actually snappier than the same field and software running on either my 2013 Mac Pro or my 2017 iMac Pro both running with substantially more RAM and dedicated video cards with far more video memory than the Mac Book Air. Apple has a great future ahead with their new RISC chipsets and ARM coding. I conducted these tests knowing this was the future for Apple, and that Capture One is not yet optimized for the M1/ARM architecture... When an optimized version of C1 Pro is released, it will be impressive, to say the least. To that end, I bought a C1 Pro subscription this time around anticipating the future.
