Update vs Upgrade
I am confused, I am using C1 build 13.1.3.9 and to the best of my knowledge, I did not purchase a C1, v21 license. However when I check for updates, I see the following screen which says that here are, “New updates are available for your registered products.”
The C1 website says, “Upgrades should not be confused with Updates which are always free. An update is a minor version release, such as going from Capture One 11.1 to Capture One 11.2. Your license is valid for all releases that begin with the same number.
When I click "OK", the next screen shows that I am using build 13.1.3, yet the Download is offering me 14.0.1. Is this an scrupulous scam to get me to install (pay for) C1,21 or is this a genuine “update“ to build 13.1.3?

The latest update for Capture One 20 is 13.1.4. You can download it at https://www.captureone.com/en/account/download/previous
The popup you refer to is correct, but misleading. It is not made clearer by the listing of version 14 in the update column in preferences.
Version 14.0.1 is an upgrade to Capture One 21. It appears in the latest version column, implying as does the message that it is an update, but it is an upgrade. If you download the upgrade, you can try it, but you will have to pay for it after the trial period. To date, upgrades require an irreversible change to the catalog files, so you need to save a copy of the old catalog if you do not want to buy the upgrade and continue to use the previous version.
Whether this is by intent or due to sloppiness is a toss up. Lack of clarity might lead a user who does not have backups of the catalog (there are still some daredevils) to download and install a trial version of the upgrade, upgrade the catalog to use it, and be forced to buy the newest version.

Thank you for the clarification and link to the real update location.
