v22 upgrade will probably be 299 and 1 seat only. new investors tend to be greedy.

Maybe they are not selling as much as they need (or want) due to the pandemic situation, but increasing prices as much as they do seems silly as they will probably sell even less.

Not sure LR is a better option, but a review of alternatives is getting higher on my todo list for 2021, quite a few years passed that I assessed LR, DXO and others.

I have long maintained that C1 was overpriced and that additionally, the company would make more money by lowering their price.

I guess we have a year to consider the alternatives.

I have no interest in renting software for the rest of my life, so Adobe is out - but DxO might be an option.

There were versions that really meant improvements and made me
happy to go on with CO… but with the great features of v. 20 and the
little significant improvements of v. 21 I won't go for it and possibly
do like Shane: consider other options.

The rumor is that price increases will begin on January 11th. There's an article on Petapixel.com providing some of the details. The article says that the new camera-specific versions will jump to $199 USD ($70 increase), but provide 2 seats instead of one. With the price changes supposedly taking place on Monday, the website shows no pricing changes as of today.

If these prices are correct, does it make sense for them to have and support different camera-specific versions? Why not go back to one version and price it at something like $250. It would be significantly simpler to support and maintain.

If I thought the additional $70 would come with improved customer service, I would think about upgrading. Right now, I just get the feeling they are overwhelmed and understaffed.

It's unfortunate that they want us to pay more, yet aren't jumping on making an iOS or android version and just as bad or worst they aren't making a M1 native version for the new Macs.

I really love the software, but it may be time to move on when I upgrade my camera again.

Hopefully, the next version (22) that you'll have to pay for at that new rate will be compliant with the M1 chips.

All these "new versions" have no meaning . Paying for version 21 was throwing money to the toilet

Just wondering… why did CO hire McNally?
His recent presence on screen — as if he had been a long time CO user — was
a rather poorly executed marketing presentation making me believe that it
simply was directed toward the conversion of Lr users.

    @ Nikon shooter

all photographers involved in online sales activities are suspicious doing it just for money so I guess it is the case with mr macnally too.  when you look at the view numbers it was probably a waste of money anyway....

Joe McNally has actually been using CO for a while (at least since 2017 that I know of). He's been using CO with Photo Mechanic as the digital access management software for several years. CO is used primarily as the tethering application. Most of the post processing is done in Photoshop, or at least it used to be.

"Just wondering… why did CO hire McNally?"

    Is he "hired"?

It seemed like it coincided with the announcement of the dedicated Nikon version.  So a marketing exercise for both parties. Maybe.

Joe is as much a business man as he is a photographer, with a staff to pay, etc. The photography business is tough for everyone these days and he doesn't need the "exposure", so I'm certain he was financially compensated for it. I will say that Joe was an advocate for CO's tethering a few years ago, before this marketing push.

I have seen quite a few videos from him last year and if I remember correctly he mentioned in one video that he has outsourced the editing, but in Corona times he found the time to do some editing by himself and for himself and he said he used C1 for quick and satisfying results. Dunno if that was triggered by a tighter relationship with C1 too.

I assume however that Joe is not the reason for the price jump :-); and if we can take the word from C1 for true we will see a massive improvement in the future, or maybe just a M1 version and I as a Windows user would have to pay for this too, with the risk that Windows OpenCL would be less seriously supported and maintained in the future.

I am sticking with version 20 as long as I can or at least until I actually see in which direction C1 will be going with their software.
