Trying to Update Capture One 20 Gives Only a Link to a Paid Upgrade Version 21
Today I went to check if there were any updates for Capture One 20, and lo and behold there is a bright shiny 14.0.2 awaiting download. I click it and it tells me that this might be a paid upgrade... what the?... it's clearly on the line stating Capture One 20... TWENTY.. not 21... bait and switch tactics?

After messing about for 10 minutes trying to find out if there actually IS a proper upgrade (unpaid) for Capture One 20, I finally find it buried in one of these pages... and a link to download "CaptureOne20.Mac.13.1.4." I've downloaded it but I won't be installing it.
In fact, I haven't used Capture One for quite awhile due to installing an update on my relatively new Windows PC, only to find out that this invalidated the older Capture One software on my Mac, which I couldn't upgrade to the newer version at the time because I didn't have the newer MacOs installed.
I can't upgrade the MacOs due to certain apps I have that won't work on newer versions of the operating system. So that was an absolute kick in the pants. Paying for software you can't use on one of your systems, yanking the license from a previous version is pretty bad.
Now you've gone to some kind of subscription model, and upgraded the software to version 21 and I guess the policy now is to automatically redirect people to the "14.0.2" "update" so and thereby get them to install the new version, rather than the C1 20 update they were looking for. If installed, it would probably invalidate their version 20. Yes they would have figured out it's a paid upgrade, and expensive at that given the "new" feature set is not that overwhelming at all.
I truly feel like I've wasted my time and money on this software which is so far behind the competition at this point it's laughable. The lack of chromatic aberration de-fringing makes it completely useless for those of us with wide aperture lenses. Maybe you'll get around to fixing that in version 21 but I haven't held my breath so far and I wouldn't waste my time when Adobe Lr/Ps has had it figured out for years now.
In the past I have touted Capture One software to the 12,000+ members in my Toronto Photographic FaceBook Group, but no more. I'm done with C1. This was the last straw, and letting my members know what to expect with this company will at least serve as a warning to those thinking about purchasing your products. Truly a shame.

while I agree you should be careful and not criticise c1 in public because as a fact looking at the last years the more user have pointed out problems, bugs and other shortcomings the more expensive it has become. increasing the prize seem the only answer they have for user who demand more ;-)

While I understand your frustration about not finding the actual update for the installed version you were looking for easily, I honestly don't agree with your accusations towards C1 at all (and honestly don't get all the agression to be found between the lines in many posts here in the recent months). C1, for several versions, has ALWAYS (!) been showing the latest available version in that window (even if it is an upgrade), NOT the latest update to the version you have installed... even though usually there is no difference between the two, because updates to no longer current version rarely happen.
Also, if you can not upgrade your macOS due to some ancient software you want to stick to, why blame C1 for that?
And if LoCA fringing annoys you, why spend money on software to fix that instead of getting yourself an APO (or near-APO) lens?

" and honestly don't get all the agression to be found between the lines in many posts here in the recent months "
hm, and you don't think this has something to do with how this company behaves ? for me it would be impossible to stay in business with the same attitude towards clients needs but i also would never have a posting like this unanswered. they see the need to jump in randomly on minor issues but give a f..k when major issues are brought up but ok if this is their way I have no problem, let them become irrelavant for professional user which are more interested in real improvements and not in overpriced presets....

I don't have any issues with their behaviour towards me. But I also don't have any completely unrealistic expectations towards their software and their business model and I also have owned (or actually licensed) more than one peace of software in my life before, which probably helps, too. You're also aware that this forum is explicitely not the place to ask for support from C1 (but from other users, of course). And you're also aware that the kind of answer you just gave is exactly the kind of answer I described, aren't you?

yeah I too have a very realistic view of this software as I use it since version 3.7 in some years almost daily. it became more buggy and unstable over time but there are now options which deliver higher quality files without all the issues of c1 coming from companies which are able to listen. so it is only a question of time till I dump c1 complete and then you can enjoy the warm feeling of a community not disturbed by aggressive posts, at least not from me... :-)
