Soft Proofing and Printing
Thoroughly confused about C1 and printing/proofing. In V21, I do not see the icon shown in the upper right corner of the screen for viewing a soft proof of the image. Instead, it appears that whenever I change the ICC profile, all the images change to the selected profile. Is this correct?
How do I compare the original image with the soft proofed version. In Lightroom I can adjust the soft proofed version to match the original but I don't see how to do this in C1. Perhaps the idea is to always work with the ICC profile that will be used in the final version but of course we often make prints on different papers and want to be able to show the same images both on paper and on the screen so I'm pretty sure I'm missing something.
Help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Good question. If one prints, being able to compare original and print profiled variant side-by-side is highly useful. Photoshop has had this feature as far back as I can remember, and it is trivially easy to use. One can play games with the print menu and the proofing feature (binocular icon, v20) but they’re all more cumbersome and less conducive to good results than direct side-by-side. I’ve been hounding CO for this capability for the last half-dozen updates, with no results. The problem appears to be that the CO development team is unwilling to assign different ICC profiles to individual variants; it’s all or nothing. Given how little of value has been added lately, and at ever increasing prices, you’d think they would appreciate the opportunity to add something so useful.

It's a big deal if you make prints. Had I known about this I might not have purchased the application.

This is definitely one of the quirks of C1 - not being able to compare original image and soft proofing variant side by side. It's almost a bit comical. It seems that the variants system is designed too rigidly - no naming, no allocation of indiviual ICC profiles etc.
