It is very weird that your current iMac cannot cope.

What is your integrated Video Card ?
Do you have an i5 or an i7 ?
    21" or 27" ?

So first thing first, CO is not optimized for M1 natively. It works through Rosetta 2 and nobody can guarantee what level of performance you’ll get. Support won’t be helping you for any potential issues you’ll have. They are still trying to figure out, after nearly 7 months, how to code CO for M1 natively!

About graphic performance, no card in earth is enough for Capture One, I bought my maxed out iMac 5K in 2015 and since then, with each version without an exception. I struggle with Capture One. Despite what Apple says about the performance of their GPU, clearly they are lying because CO struggles always :)

I used a MBP with an External EGPU it made no real difference over that of the internal one. Recently I sold all of it and purchased a M1 MBP and haven't noticed any difference at all, alas C1 still uses Open CL and until they update it to use Metal it is likely to always be a bottleneck in large operations.

I am hoping that we see an optimised or universal C1 21 soon for the M1, and a hopeful road map to the software using Metal.

I think C1 has struggled for a long time on 5k iMacs. I run it on a 2017 15" MBP with a 4GB Radeon Pro 560 card and have experienced no problems. Used to process 2000-3000 shot events with C1 easily; haven't done that with v21 yet but would expect no problems.
