You don't have to update from Capture One 20 - it was a good app when you bought it, and it is still a good app now. The only reasons to have to update would be if the later version had a new feature you couldn't live without, or if you got a new camera that wasn't supported by your existing version.

I don't think it odd that they aren't updating Capture One 20 any more - you get the same for all kinds of software. For instance, ON1 2020 is not being updated now that they have ON1 2021.

I think CaptureOne should support current and one previous version of their software (N-1)

New functions/features would only be added to the current version.

Bug fixes and New Camera support would be available for current version and one previous version (ie. c21 and c20).

While this may reduce sales of new versions of the platform, it will provide a better service to the customer and build more brand loyalty.

I have CP 11(on a MacPro mid 2012) and 12(on a Macbook Pro) and I'm told to purchase another even though I too have a perpetual lic.

You can carry on using Capture One 11 and Capture One 12 as long as you like, provided you have computers that will run them. There is no obligation to update, though you may eventually want new features that later versions have, or want a version that supports a new camera.

Capture One has been disingenuous at best or deliberately deceptive at worst.  There should have been automatic upgrades for purchases, a grace period, made 2-3 months prior to the launch of Capture One 21 OR clearly inform the customer at the time of purchase that a new version is launching shortly - give them the choice and correct value proposition.

You knew that the product you where selling was obsolete yet failed to offer the choice and flogged off your "perpetual license with upgrades" right up until announcement day, many never received upgrades because the lifecycle was done and none where issued in the short period they had been license holders.

    Poor Form.

the "perpetual license"  thing is a charade anyway only uphold to persuade user who believe they punish adobe when they refuse to rent LR  but for this little imaginary triumph they get milked here as much as possible. truth is the cheapest way to use c1 is to rent it
