Adjustments lost after incorrect re-location

When I selected Locate to reassign the folder that has images with adjustments, I selected by accident the parent folder of the folder that I wanted to select at the new location. The parent folder which has no images. At this point I could not my images back via the parent folder but only by each image individually. This causes that all adjustments on the images are lost. What am I doing wrong? And how can I correct this?
