14.2--Highlights and Whites sliders do the same thing.
I had this issue with v14.1 and was hoping that it would be fixed with v14.2, but it has not been.
With B&W conversion images, when I adjust the Highlights and Whites sliders, they both produce essentially the same changes, which extend from the low mid-tones all the way to white. For me, this makes those tools almost useless, as their effects are not properly targeted. The only workaround is to use curves, which can be more precisely controlled but is also slower.
Has anyone else seen this behavior?

Permanently deleted userHighlight recovery on colour images works by extrapolating "lost" information in close-to-blown channels, from the remaining channels that still contain data.
With a B&W image, there's no colour data to work with, so it's no surprise that the Highlights and Whites controls have much the same effect,

Thanks for the explanation. Henceforth, I will use Curves to make tonal corrections on B&W images.

when you do not use a modified camera which has the bayer filter removed c1 always works with an color image internally. so all tools you use like white balance or HDR are applied to this internal color image, the bw conversion is on top of this. so changes made with the color editor will also effect your bw image for example. depending on the image content the effect of white and HL slider can be rather similar. the BW conversion recipe used will also play a roll.
so do the tools work as intended before you activate the BW conversion ?

Yes, they work as expected before the conversion. I also have a Leica Q2 Monochrom but have not had a chance to observe how the sliders work with its files. The Q2M is the reason that I got Capture One in the first place. The tonality and detail are superior to other software that I tested.

so nothing unusual, the effect of the HDR tool slider overlap to some degree also depending on image content they can have a rather similar effect.
tonality is like "yummy" we all use it to describe what we like but we have very different ideas what tastes good. what is more interesting for me is what software gives me the most control over tonality and keeps things smooth and naturally, c1 is clearly not the winner, not only because the shadow HDR slider does introduce a solarisation like effect with bw images. I have also not seen one example where c1 reveals more real detail than arc,dxo,iridient.. when used with corresponding settings to match c1.

When I compared C1 to ARC and ON1 with files from my Q2M, I found the results from C1 to be more pleasing in terms of shadow detail and overall appearance. If others disagree, then so be it. And no, I will not be posting examples.
