Mac Mini M1 (base version) with QHD or 4K monitor?
Hi,
I am planing to buy the basic version of Mac Mini M1 with 8gb of ram. I am not sure what resolution of monitor to aim for. I am planning to buy Dell 27" Dell UltraSharp U2722D (QHD) or 27" Dell P2721Q (4K), but I am no sure if the Mac with be able to handle the 4K resolution without being slugish in C1. Do you have any experience with 4K resolution and MM M1 and working in C1? Are the sliders responsible? How´s the zooming and other operations?
Thank you for your response.

Hi, I have a Mac mini 2018 and use it with a 4K BenQ Display and an old 30" Apple CinemaDispaly. All my images are stored on an external hard disk connected via USB3. As far as I can tell it works more or less fluid. You have to set the preview size of your images to the native display resolution to view them quickly. Unfortunately Apple is limiting the Mac mini M1 again. Only two USB-C/Thunderbolt ports and two USB-A ports. I have connected my 4K display via HDMI and get 60Hz – don’t know is the refresh rate of my CinemaDisplay… Anyway, because I was thinking too, to upgrade on the M1, I would recommend get 16MB RAM and better get a 32" 4K display – the menus become really tiny a a 27" 4K display if you want to work with the native full resolution, or get a second cheaper display for all the menus and panels.
Here’s a link I have found quite useful.

Thank you for your reply Phrank. Bought the MM M1 base model with 27" Dell P2721Q and everything runs smooth (4k, 60hz). But, of course, there is a cath. No RGB profile, only ycbcr. Looks like something Apple will have to solve. Everything look and runs smooth, no banding or unsharp text, but the colour profile is a bummer.
