EXACTLY.  I would have to say that the new 'Export' dialog that pops up is one of the BIGGEST mistake Capture One has made IN YEARS!  I need to be able to process quickly and efficiently on set, under severe time constraints.  Alot of time, I'm pausing and starting the processing queue every spare second I have to be able to give my clients the deliverables they need in a 10-hour day and not go into overtime.  To take EVERYTHING Output/processing wise and throw it into some consumer-friendly dialog box really screws up my workflow.  I immediately went back to version 14.2.0.136 and don't plan to EVER upgrade until you bring back my processing and output tabs.  BIG SCREW UP ON YOUR PART.

I've never been one to complain about software updates, until today... The new export window is awful, why are you make our workflow slower, great if you want to be different or innovative or whatever you're trying to do but it literally wastes more of my time. I process 5 to 600 images a day and now have to wait for an extra popup window to open, watch while the rainbow circle spins as it hangs trying to do whatever it is doing and then navigate down to find the export button instead of move mouse, click process gear and move on with my work. Super annoying, please rethink this or at least allow those the option to have the old way.

I don't quite understand.   What is the difference between clicking on the process tab button vs clicking on an export button?  Both give you access to your recipes. Export remembers the last recipe used just like the process tab button used to do. You can set up the export window so your favorite recipe, the one that does exactly what you want, is selected and checked. Then go a step further and map the export command to a keystroke.  I use shift-command-e.   With that done exporting selected images requires no mouse clicks.

    • shift-cmd-exit brings up the export window for the selected images
    • return exports those images

That's less button clicks than using the process tab.

+1, It's basically the same process, but you need an extra click and move of the mouse to access it. This is a bad move. I just saw the video explaining it and I'm not into it so I'm holding the update for now.

I you guys are gonna put a whole new window for exporting at least let us filter different recipes for different images. Let me explain:
I have my recipes like so:

The heart color is the same as the color which I use to tag each version of the image I want to export. So I mark 5 star Blue tag to all the files I want to export to JPEG 1080p, 5 star Purple to 1920 cropped, and so on...

This is one single edited file which gets exported to all of these, but each recipe also has a DIFFERENT CROP. So I have a single fie with 4+ variants, each one with a unique crop, with the "old" process I just click on a recipe hit CMD+D it gest process, then I press "4" to lower the rating of the image so I know it's processed and move on the next one, TWO clicks to change process, again CMD+D

With the new process I have to open the window which is a move of the mouse + 1 click and THEN do the 2 clicks to change recipe, why? If I'm opening the whole new window can you at least let me select ALL my images and have the recipes identify color tag and rating so it goes something like this:

    Recipe 1:

    • 2500px wide
    • sRGB
    • 80% compression
    • Folder Output: (User Defined)
    • Name: (User Defined)
    • Metadata
    • SMART SELECTION: ONLY PROCESS VARIANTS WITH: ( ) Defined Color Tag ( ) Defined User Rating ( ) Defined Keyword ( ) Other

This way I can select ALL my images on 1 go, open the Export window and each variant will only get exported to the recipe I want to, instead of 1 mouse move + THREE CLICKS for each variant exported.

@Marco Hyman It's basic UI, Capture One characterizes itself for being a single flow UI, this update makes it so that you are getting out of the main UI flow to go to a secondary flow (which is not that bad, since you already do it when IMPORTING and in the old EXPORT dialog or with EDIT WITH)

BUT... this secondary workflow or extra dialog needs to happen EVERY TIME you want to switch recipe, same as my example before, C1 doesn't have a smart filter to link a variant with a recipe so if I select all I get ALL my variants processed with ALL recipes at once, when what I want is a variant per recipe. So each time I change variant I get out of the main UI flow to get into a dialog for a recipe.

Thank you for the explanation. I can see how this slows you down. Your use case is something I haven't needed to do.  For me the new export window is (usually) faster, now slower.

Hi all, i haven't update yet and after i saw You Tube presentation of the new process window i'm wondering if there's a way to stop develops and manage queue. I use to start develop and stop while i'm shooting tethered to speed up. Thanks in advance for your replies!

The new export button is really a step backwards:

exactly as described above, exporting is now unnecessarily complicated.
    - a new window is automatically opened that blocks all other windows until I finally press close again
    - a progress bar always appears, which I have to click into the background when processing for a long time
    - stopping the processing queue was a nice feature

I can't really see the advantage, except that I now get another viewer with which I can do a soft proof. The old user interface was good. Now it is a typical programmer solution that does not know the needs of the users.
    Too bad.

To change process recipe click and hold on the Proofing button down arrow. It will show all your recipes and allow you to select the one you want. Not as handy as before but you don't need to click the Export icon.

@David Papas - if you have it set to PSD full size already, you don't need to open the Export dialog at all. Just hit Cmd-D (Ctrl-D on Windows) as you could do before. There isn't a button for it anymore, but Cmd-D is easy to get used to (and in fact quicker than clicking a button - I have used that for year under previous versions).

That works, It would not hurt to have a one click process button in the toolbar though, that would make everyone happy

I'm experiencing a BIG problem with the new export window in that any custom, manual order I create in an album, is not honoured on export. In other words, no matter which image order I create (via drag and drop), the export process names files according to their file names, and not the custom manual order I want.

So today I had to spend 30 minutes manually renumbering an exported set for a client.

    I'm running MacOS Mohave on an Early 2015 13" (3.1Ghz, 16GB RAM)

Anybody else had the same results?

the new export tools has some great features which were really missing like overwrite. But the move to a window design (instead of nab) is doing an "Adobe".

Using the new tool as a window, you have to work harder to get a similar result.

Request: Let the export tab as a windows for Lr. followers, but put it back as tab like CaptureOne is designed for!

    ...doing an adobe ?

I´m using ps since version 2 but I have never seen that adobe made things worse or does not offer the option to use the old behaviour. to make things more cumbersome is a c1 speciality !  and as with updates before all new features are more show than real value but adding only an overwrite option was not enough for the marketing department....

  • Emile Gregoire

Adobe did exactly the same as C1 is doing now, with a botched update of Lr, maybe 5 or 6 years ago. No option to use the old behavior too. They reversed course after a LOT of protest from its community. That did some serious damage to its reputation at that time.

I have no intention of updating C1, reading all of this…

@Emile Gregoire : Marketing departement at its best..

    Worst update ever.

However, C1 is an EU company, and they are working closely with many photographers. Unlike Adobe, I have hope they react.

emaile, i do not really know what you are referring to but adobe changed course which means they listen to their user something c1 is also unable...   just think of layer handling.

Yes. You should see an activity progress window when it is developing several images and you can stop it by clicking the x at the right hand side. But there seems to be no way of restarting it again!

Open New Window slow me down a lot, I tried to like it this but I hate it! I understand you are trying to make the export easy for some and new users. but I just don't understand why you took it completely out, Yes I can use the keyboard shortcut cmd+D that's what I use most of the time, but I also have the Process tool as floating window so I can navigate my folders and select recipes quickly to process  based on the clients needs.

PLEASE AT LEAST GIVE US THE OPTION TO ADD IT BACK TO THE TOOLS TAB.

I used to like C1 that I can customize the whole workspace how I want it now we are forced to use open a new window every time I need to select a different recipe.

    EDITED TO ADD LINK!

I downgraded to 14.2 you can find it here if you scroll a bit down in the page.

the people in charge seem to have no clue what productivity really means, in a short period of time they damaged two areas which worked flawless before.

Yeah, they really need the option to stick it back in the tools tab.. THIS IS AN AWFUL DECISION.

Nothing was wrong with the old system. Was way more powerful than any other software out there.

Big thing for me that they changed is they removed the Global process recipe control. It's now a lot more work to export multiple recipes to different folders from C1. Actually from my playing it can't actually do what the old system did.

Just like @Roberto Alanis, I have multiple recipes per RAW file on export.

Old system: Each Recipe had a Sub Name preset inside.  Easily use the tag "SubName" on the export folder location and all the recipes would be sorted on export. No extra typing or clicks, super simple. My Export Location would look like: JobIdentifier-DDMMYY/SubName. Which would create a master folder for all images to go, then filter each recipe into their own folder.

It was one/two clicks to load the preset and away we go with a lovely sorted set of images.

New System: We must now type on every export; the new folder for each recipe. Every time. SubName token has been removed. S

The power of Tokens has been removed.  Please bring back the old TAB with all the same functions, this update is a genuine step backward / removal of functionality.

    - Edit: I've added Support Ticket outlining this removal of function plus extra pop-up screen being not so great, especially on small screens

@Daniel Carson Indeed, I didn't notice that.. it's very powerful.

Fortunately, they made available the 14.2 back online: https://www.captureone.com/en/account/download

I guess they will put back the old one as the new one is liking going back 10 years ago.

In addition to the problem with the completely bad export, the file format changes with 14.3.
The longer I work with the new version, the less I can go back because then I only have new, no longer backward compatible sessions or catalogs.
Was there no one at the developers who asked a user before? I think it is naive to hope that they will realize this mistake and correct it.

There is a beta tester programm available.

I am in.. unfortunately, this is the first time I could not, because of lack of time, participate.

    Which formats changed ?

they offer betas when the features are set so even when someone raises concerns it is ignored. i´m totally convinced that they are fully aware of the impact of this changes but decided to force it on their user anyway like with the layer handling because they know only a small group of professionasl or other heavy user will complain.  for the rest goofing around with a handful of snapshots it is probably even exciting to have a new window.

    oh what a pity

The session and catalog file format changes with 14.3.
As usual, the old format is updated (there is a prompt) and a backup of the old file is created (.backup). This is not the problem.
But all new sessions or catalogs I create now with 14.3 I cannot read with 14.2.
So now I have to decide: do I accept the degradation of the export and get bugfixes and a nice magicgrush for it or do I do without.

    3
  • Nicolas Det

@Thomas: Same here. I decided to switch back to 14.2.x until they fix the 14.3.

I think they will. Acutally, they are also photographers and many working professionals rely on C1. And they need them at least for marketing reasons..

If not.. then it's an issue for my workflow. Meaning, I can not rely anymore on C1 as pro tools. Not that it's suddently got unusable, but beause of the direction of the software would be off pro (like Apple did).

Actually, it would be also a positiv move to eventually being able to ditch, in the same time, from Windows and Mac.CaptureOne being the only software left to have a Windows or a Mac.

hm, don't think they need really working pros as customer as they can anytime buy some "professional landscape shooters"  or "high end retouchers " for testimonials to impress amateurs. how they act is a clear indicator what direction things will go.
