can't connect Phase One p45plus
Hi,
I used to connect my P45PLUS DB using a firewire-thunderbolt adaptor to my laptop. Now I updated my computer software to BigSur and as a result I can't use old version of CaptureOne anymore. I downloaded CaptureOne21 and got my digital back license key and put that in and managed to open CaptureOne21. But the software does not recognize my digital back. I checked help pages but nothing changed. Anyone experienced something similar? THNKS

Tethering via Firewire is not supported with macOS 11 (Big Sur)
That's from the Capture One 21 initial release notes. Apple says: "Firewire tethering with any device via a dongle will no longer be supported from Big Sur onwards".

Thnks for prompt reply. What do I now then? downgrade my Mac?

Don't know. That may be your only solution. I have an older iMac that I kept when I last got a new machine. It will never be updated so I can use it to capture data from some firewire devices I still have. The machine is too old to run Big Sur, anyway.

That's what I will do. Thnks.
Another big thanks to APPLE...

Same thing happened to my Aptus75. Now it only tethers to an OLD laptop. Terrible workflow.
Very annoying when a perfectly good camera system delivering quality images (albeit not so large) is made redundant by "upgrades" that forces you spend more money.
I suppose even the latest and greatest PhaseOne backs will, sooner or later, meet the same fate.
Arrg.

I tried firewire-tundernolt2(adoptor)-tunderbolt3(adaptor) tethering with my friend's new generation macbook pro with MACOS MOJAVE. Capture One does not recognize the camera again.
So have to have an old laptop with old macos versions.

If I remember correctly, under the same situation with my Aptus75, the workflow was to capture images with the camera/laptop tether combination that worked and imported the capture files files into the newer software for color correction.
The workflow got so onerous that I just switched to capture with a Canon 5d.
Imagery not quite as good (bit depth of the Aptus back seemed better than the Canon), but frustration level was lower.
Good luck with finding a way to make it work.

I have to keep a Win 7 system available to work with my printer.
Win 10 does not support it.
So it's by no means an Apple problem alone.
In fact computing has been a modern era example of built-in obsolescence with, perhaps, some of the shortest new product > widespread usage > obsolete cycles humans have ever managed to achieve.
That is not so bad for new technology if the costs are low by the time of mass acceptance. I'm not sure that photography could really claim low costs - relative to who uses it, for what purpose and how much they spend. (One might claim that in fact, it is not bad if you assume the cost of a camera is more or less free because one uses a phone that is "required" for other purposes. Also that there are no unwelcome processing and printing costs (compared to film) and so little or no limit to how many images one might choose to capture.
But it is a pretty bad use of materials, resources and energy if relatively costly products become unusable well before they fail in unrepairable ways.
