30 Minutes to import ~400 shots?
Now that Lightroom is no longer Lightroom, and my old version doesn't support RAW from my new camera, I'm looking around for a replacement. I'm testing out Capture One and just tried to import roughly 400 photos I took yesterday. It's it's telling more it will take more than 30 min? Is that usual, because it would be a deal breaker for me no mater how nice the rest of the application works?

That depends on a lot of things - mostly your hardware and the file size/resolution.
If you're working on an old computer with a hard drive and you're importing high res images from a usb2 connection...well... yeah then it will take a long time to import and render the preview images.
ps.: what do you mean by "lightroom is no longer lightroom"?
