You can load keywords from a text file, and a spreadsheet should be able to export a column of values as a text file. Would assigning names as keywords work for you?

Depending on what exactly the result should be, you can use CO's automation/scripting capability to parse in any records/data into naming and folders.

I have some generic apps on my web store, but contact me if you want to do something more - say direct Excel integration.

    Hi Thomas

I am not sure if this what you need or are exactly asking, but I thought I would respond just in case.   If this doesn't help you, maybe it will help someone else.  I constantly have my digital tech make 50+ folders with each clothing style numbers from my clients so that we can name files with those style numbers as we shoot tethered.  If anyone knows an easier way to do it, please let me know.  I am on Mac and not sure the Windows equivalent.

Steps: Seems like many steps, but it is pretty easy and take a few minutes.

    1.  We have the client send an Excel Spreadsheet with the all the style numbers/filenames in the exact format that we will name the file, like 12345_blue (no spaces as that will mess up the process, as will some characters).

    2.  In Excel (or Apple's Numbers if you don't have Excel), you add a blank column before the column of style numbers/filenames they make.

    3.  type mkdir in that new column and drag it down to the bottom and one row past the last row of style numbers (not sure why you have to drag it an extra row, but if not it doesn't get the last style number.

    4.  The select both columns of mkdir and the style numbers/filenames and copy.

    5.  Open Terminal (Go to Applications, then Utilities) and paste all those 2 columns.  It will automatically make individual folders for as many filenames as you copy and pasted.  I cannot remember in Terminal you to direct it to a specific folder.  Someone here must know how to do that.  If you do nothing, it will go to your username and dump the folders there.  You can always spotlight search one of the filenames to find them all.

    6.  Drag those folders into your Capture folder.

    7.  In Capture One, find the Library tool in the folder icon.  Navigate to the capture folder there and press the arrow next to it to show all the folders you created.

    8.  If you are shooting tethered, you control click the folder and choose "Set as Capture Folder." If you have the images imported already, then you can move your images into the appropriate folder and rename them.

    9.  To name them, go to the "Next Capture Naming" tool and with the 3 dots on the right of format, select "Destination Folder Name" and whatever digit counter.  If you moved the photos into a folder and are not shooting tethered, then select the photos in the folder and control click and pick "Batch Rename."  In the 3 dots to the right of Format, choose "Image Folder Name" and whatever digital counter.

You should be able to name the files whatever was in the excel columns as long as some characters don't mess up Apple's Terminal or don't work for Capture One filenames. I know one of my techs once put a little shortcut that you could click from any program and it would open terminal from the folder you clicked on and you pasted it there.  But I don't have it anymore and can't recall the name, so we do it manually.

    Hope that helps

    Michael
