Watermark Sizing
It took me the better part of a Saturday but I finally figured out how to proportionally size a watermark to match the crop of the photo. Setting the size of the watermark either by Scale or by the point size of the font is only part of the solution. Under the Format & Size box in the Export window you have to set the Scale to Width X Height. Fixed will not work! I don't think it matters to what you set them to but both width and height have to be the same. I used 1500 X 1500 px. The Size line under Watermark is set to points and the font is set to 36.
Upon export each of my photos has a watermark somewhat proportional to the crop of the image. This was a frustrating exercise but I have written down the steps and should be able to follow this next time I need. I will continue to experiment using Pixels in the Size line under Watermark and try different font sizes to see the effect.
Hope this is of interest to some of you.

Update. I just tried changing the Size line under Watermark to pixels. I had to adjust the font size to 180 but it still gives proportionate size watermarks no matter what the cropped size of the photo. So if you are having trouble with this procedure make the change in the Format & Size, Scale line.

Thanks, Murray.
Personally I gave up on Capture One's ridiculously convoluted and wrong-headed approach to watermarks years ago, after years of trying to persuade them that it was - to all practical intents and purposes - broken.
It still is.
Watermarking is easier (much easier) and more predictable in literally every other piece of image manipulation and raw conversion software I own. Which is a lot.

I too used an old version of Photoshop to watermark my photos. For some reason I could not make it work yesterday. Don't know why and haven't looked into that yet. So I embarked on a journey to figure out how to make C1 do it. I have done another batch of images today using the same export recipe and again it worked. There is still a bit of fiddling to make sure the font size chosen fits on the portrait cropped photos but I think I now have a method. I do agree that it is still broken and the programmers at C1 should be able to make it easier. From reading past posts it has been a long time they have been aware of this.

Can't you use image-based watermark rather than text-based?

Hi MSK
That would work if you have a professional image to use but I am not a pro and I would have to construct an image. That would take more time. Although I would only have to do it once. After 5 months of doing my way I have only found one photo I could not put a watermark onto and that came from my wife. She cropped it so much that the minimum size of the watermark stretched beyond the edges of the crop.
