Capture One + Synology and Samba (SMB) File Permissions

Hello All,

I'm writing to see if anyone has encountered this issue and hopefully found a solution. I keep my CaptureOne catalogue on a Synology NAS (DS418play) and connect to it via SMB from a Mac running Big Sur.

I can open the catalogue and edit the photos, I just can't output/export the photos from CaptureOne to the NAS, I must export to my local disk for it to work. I get an error code 13 when exporting.

I also cannot import NEF files into my NAS, oddly enough, I can import JPEGs using the CaptureOne importer. My work around at the moment is to copy the files manually into the NAS and then hit "synchronise" on the folder in CaptureOne, it's far from ideal.

When using AFP as a file protocol, I don't have any issues, but unfortunately, it's far too slow and unreliable with a lot of dropouts.

Hoping someone can shed some light onto the issue and maybe point me in the right direction.

Hey Andy,

I don't mind the speed bump of the catalogue on the server, but of course there could very well the possibility that having it on the NAS is what's causing the issues so I'm meaning to test it this week when things have quieted down.

I do connect via the finder + cmd K method, thats where I choose either with AFP or SMB. For the time being I've reverted back to AFP.

I think you may be onto something in regards to the read and write permissions in regards to parent directories. I'll research that myself but if you have any articles or webpages you found helpful I would love to take a look.

Just curious, do you connect via SMB or AFP yourself?
