Create LCC from any image file and apply it to any other image file without restriction
ImplementedThis topic had already been discussed in the "Flat Stitching" feature request, but I am bringing this up again since it is slightly different from the original request.
Basically I'd like to be able to create a Lens Cast Correction (LCC) profile from any source file apply it to any other image file even if its origin, format (jpeg, tiff, raw, etc.) and specific file dimensions differ slightly. Currently if a LCC profile is created from an image of a specific camera/lens combo containing exif data, it is not possible to apply that LCC profile to an other image originating from the same camera model, it has to come from the exact same camera.
I also would wish to be able to create and apply LCC profiles from and to JPEG and/or TIFF files not just Raw files.
More detailed information about the reasons behind the request can be found in the afore mentioned request from a couple of days ago called "Flat Stitching"
Thank you for your attention.
And given the time of year I wish you all happy holidays and a happy new year!

Hi Ruppert,
Thank you for your feedback and loyalty to Capture One - we appreciate the time you’ve taken to contribute towards the development of the software.
I have forwarded your request to implement the ability to create an LCC profile from any source file apply it to any image without restrictions to our Product Management team.
Hopefully, your feedback contributes towards a future version of Capture One.
Whilst we cannot comment on future releases, we take all suggestions on board.

Ruppert,
I think what you may want, based on your description, is really something more like a filter overlay layer or layers. The LCC technology part of the current process could be skipped completely since, in effect, it would no longer be relevant.
Subtle colour tuning based on the correction of, say, as RAW file would likely produce very different results (or no results) if applied to a processed and compressed jpg with a pre-limited colour range so I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve on that regard. But the idea of being able to produce a colour correcting filter of some sort to apply to any file may be interesting.
The other functionality of LCC, like dust spot correction, would likely be irrelevant - possibly even disruptive to processing - if any attempt to build that into a "filter" like feature to apply to images of variable sizes was being considered.
Better, perhaps, some new tool that was designed to identify dust spots automatically and suggest how they might be eliminated.

Hi SFA
I think it is a lot simpler than what you might think.
I don't like restrictions that are based on the assumption that a particular tool or feature can only be used in one way and should never be used in any other. The truth of the matter is that virtually any tool in todays software is the result of users having found workarounds to the unavailability of a purpose build tool by combining functions that were originally designed for something entirely different. I could come up with a plausible explanation for any imaginable use case scenario of using LCCs from any file to any file, just as much as you could probably come up with cases where none of this would make any sense. But the bottom line is that as long there is a possibility to use the tools in all sorts of ways, it's up to the users discretion to make a use of it that suits his needs. That's all I ask for, give users the possibility to make their own choices and then watch what they come up with. If eventually you see the emergence of specific uses that can be transferred into a purpose built tool all the better.Happy Holidays
