Sign In, Paid For for software outright!
I'm a little confused, I purchased my software outright and have for many years now when I upgrade, why do I have to sign in after install and validation? I hate having to Sign In, get rid of this as I don't want to feel I'm being tracked or counted. I want to be anonymous most of the time!

What do you mean by "having to Sign In"?
If this is related to the upgrade process and the new activation key that would have been issued, it should be a one-off sign-in until either the next upgrade or some fundamental system configuration change.
However, C1, in common with most applications, will always check that you have a valid license and the confirmation for that will normally be held in a small file within your system. If, for some reason, that file does not exist or cannot be read you might be asked to re-confirm.
I offer this only because it may be useful and prompt some ideas about the problem at your end. Without knowing exactly what point in the process you have to Sign In (is it just to the website and forum perhaps?) it a bit difficult to know what information might be relevant.
To talk to Capture One about this I would suggest using the "Submit a request" link on the top line of this web page.
Finally, you are of course being tracked and counted, probably by all of the software you have installed in some way. This is what happens, by and large, in the modern interconnected world. Sometimes we can be a bit more anonymous than others.

This is what this is about:

It is one off authentication process, probably linked to the recent C1 update and/or OS update. Not sure which one it is as I upgraded both almost at the same time. You only have to do it once.

This just happened to me tonight. If I wanted to be tracked or be forced to sign in every 30 days, I'd sign up with Adobe. But I buy perpetual licenses for just this reason, not to be badgered every 30 days to sign in. I paid for the software, now go away and let me work!
If the response is "we need to know how many activations you're using," that's BS!! Your servers know how many activations we've used, and if we try to use one more than that we're blocked. End of story. All you need to know is how many activations are in use. I shouldn't have to log in every 30 days just to reconfirm what you already know.
This needs to stop or give me a refund.

If you have a perpetual licence, you may be asked to sign in to validate it again after an update. But if you have to do it repeatedly, update or not, then it is not working as designed.
If you have a subscription, then I believe that it wants to touch base with the server every 30 days - presumably to check that you still have a current subscription. It doesn't seem unreasonable to me - I assume that the idea is to prevent the use of pirated software, which after all ultimately increases the cost for all of us.
