Tethering problems with capture 22 and Fuji gfx and Fuji 100s

    Greetings.

I too have the very same issue with my GFX100s, although lockups are random, with no predictable pattern.

This week called Fuji GFX Tech Support and they suggested switching GFX100s Connection Setting to [USB TETHER SHOOTING FIXED]. Unfortunately this didn't work and camera instantly locked up once tethered to C1P.

Reverted back to [USB TETHER SHOOTING AUTO], yet still experience frequent lockups, which require me to disconnect USB Cable, and disconnect battery to force reset the Camera. Then I am able to continue with tethered shooting for a while.

The tech said it could be C1P, it could be my 2019 MackBook Pro, could be the USB Cable. Difficult to pinpoint.

If anyone on this forum has experienced this same issue, and solved it, please posts I love my GFX, and honesty, I love C1P as my Raw Processor.

It all seemed to kick off when I upgraded to 22 - I sent the gfx back to wex but the same thing happened with a new cable - a different gfx and a new 100s while I shot today with the Nikon D870 no issues

This has been an ongoing trouble for a long while. I've posted here a few times over the last year about my experiences. I've contacted Fuji, C1 and Tether Tools. All say it's an issue with the other's products. The only concrete thing I've found to help is the Tether Tool Block (not the hangin attachment) to hold the cable firmly in place. Personally I believe it's a combination of Fuji's weak USB-c port and maybe a compatibility issue between C1 and Fuji's system. My Canon system is lightning fast and stable with C1.

The Block really has improved the situation though!

I have had this issue since upgrading to C1P22. I shot tethered on my Fuji GFX 100s for months in 2021 with no issues. I upgraded C1 in the winter and then started having issues. I've also tested my new GFX 50sii and same issue. I've troubleshot by testing 3 different tether chord brands at different lengths. Different laptops. All lock up. Randomly at that! There is no cadence to it. It's very sporadic. I've tested my Canon system and everything works perfectly.

This issue makes it impossible to rely on this setup on a shoot. I've poured so much money into this setup and when contacting C1 and Fuji they all point to each other and there are no resolutions. Debating my next move currently.

Same here. Sadly, C1P doesn't seem to have any will to solve this things. Now considering to move alternative application for Fujifilm camera.

I have after sending my camera back and Fuji replaced parts so far so good have been ok - what I did was install up to date firmware into my pixapro triggers which apparently cause conflict with Fuji cameras - so far so good

Having issues here as well with GFX100s locking up, never ever happened with my old GFX50s. Camera is on a tripod, usb-cable firmly attached with *zero* play, so I'm ruling out the usb-connection. If I shoot tethered to Fujifilms own X Acquire, I get exactly the same lock ups. That makes me think it's not CO but the camera.

hello, just purchase C1 23 and I am having the same issues with GFX100S. I am shooting with a new MacBook Pro, new cable, and the damn thing blocks, have to reset the camera, unplug etc. Has anybody been able to find a solution?? many thanks

There's no solution outside of Apple and Fuji releasing new products that don't use USB-C. Fuji has confirmed the connection on the camera is weak. It's a flaw in the USB-C as a whole. A Tether Tools block greatly improved this for me. Although, it still disconnects if I move the camera or computer in a way that causes the cable to move at the port connection.

Im having Fujiflm GFX100s and im having same problem as other photographers in this chat. The cable is firmly attached to the camera and computer always so i don’t believe problem is with cable.

I notice that when i focus and shoot at the same time camera lose the stability and its freeze. After i need to remove the cable and the battery to continue with the shoot.

Is really annoying as on recent shoot i lost the moment to capture because of this. As other people say with other brands i dont have problems at all. Only with fujiflm.

    Yep, same thing here.
Also sent thr Fuji back and they replaced the inside thing.
But issue came back. Can't we sent them a group complaint or something? I think the problem is really Fuji here.
The camera is to expensive for such issues...

Hey Hannes this is great suggestion! I was trying to reach them out but i still didn’t get any reply. If you know the way to reach them and send them a group complain will be amazing. Let me know how i can support in this process? And so true the camera is to costly for this kind of issue!

To be honest I'm done with Fuji. I traded in my Fuji X-system because 50% of my shots were out-of-focus. I kept a thinned out GFX-system w/ 45mm, 80mm, 110mm. It's sort of a backup system, and perhaps for some personal work but the heart of my main system now is a Canon R5. It just works. AF? Tethered? No problem, no more frustrations, halleluja.

I think this is a compatibility issue with Capture One and nothing to do with the Cameras or the laptops. My systems works with no issues with Lightroom but with C ONE I keep having this issue, when the computer goes to sleep. I am almost 100% sure it is a software issue and not a camera issue.

I also think it's a software issue because my issues started when I upgraded to C1.22. I recently upgraded to C1.23 and it rarely locks up anymore; just occasionally. It's extremely frustrating that C1 has no customer service to talk to... I mean this is supposed to be a professional software company? I'm all in to formulate a group complaint to C1 and Fuji just to see what we can figure out and hopefully fix one day. LMK!

I have the same problem. Very irritating to have to disconnect and take out the battery a couple of times before everything works again. But I am also a bit glad to see that I am not the only one. I have just updated C1 and hope that this does not happen during an important shoot tomorrow...

Surprises me that C1 is silent about this issue, considering heading back to LR

Surprisingly, still a lot of people suffering about this issue… I already had moved to LR and now considering use ON1 both is also great. There’s not a critical reason to use C1 anymore. I appreciate for the past though.

John let me know how it went with the new update? Thank you.

I will. I am the studio right now waiting for the models to arrive. I will use 2 camera's: a Z9 and the GFX100s. I don't expect problems with the Z9 and hope not to get any with the GFX. Fingers crossed.

Jure, I am half way the shoot now and the problem is still there. BUT, when I turn on the camera, when connected to my Macbook, it is frozen. When I fiddle a bit with the usb connector on the camera it comes on again.

I have the histogram showing in the viewfinder. When the camera freezes, that is gone. When I fiddle with the usb connection I know the camera is active again when the histogram is back. I am pretty sure that the usb connection on the camera is the problem. These are my findings so far.

hey John thanks for above really appreciate! Im thinking to try for the next shoot in LR and I can let you know how is there. If there will be the same problem then yes we can confirm that is something wrong with the USB. Good luck on the shoot!

Hi Jure, I have tried LR al long time ago, but find it to be way too slow. So great if you could let me know how LR works and I am looking forward to your findings!

    Hello everyone !
Yesterday I was shooting on a Fuji 100S, after a 10 shots it stopped functioning C1 and the only thing that helped was rebooting the main battery, but trying to tweak the settings did absolutely nothing. Nikon Z9 works with no such issue with the C1. If anyone knows if there’s a way to fix or work around it please let me know, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,

I have had the same issue since I started using Capture One - Lots of people with the same and CO is silent about it. I bought the license because I wanted o try it after a suggestion from a friend but so far a bit disappointed with the lack of response. Any way, don't throw away your light room.

    Hello agin

Does someone try on new 100 ii tethering. Does it work smoothly? I try to get some info from the release update on this matter but unfortunately couldn’t find anything. Maybe someone from here have hands on new GFX model and can give some first hand test review on tethering.

Im planing to sell my 100s just because of tethering problem and get new 100ii.

    Hi Jure,

There is option to copy file on card in the same time with tethering. You can find it in Capture. Thats only one trick which could help me not to loose shots with Fuji 100s.

As for 100II I have no experience.

    best regards, Natalia

    Hi Jure,

I also have pre-ordered a 100 II. Even though I had a shoot last week where I had to walk from one location to another in an office. I had my 100s connected to my MacBook and walked around with the camera in one hand and my MacBook in the other and the Fuji kept connected the whole time. But it is hit and miss with the connection to Capture One. My main reason for a 100 II is that it is a more professional body build wise. I hope it has a better USB port because I think that is where the problem lies.

    John

Hi all, I've been testing the FUJI GFX 100 II body tethered this weekend - connection drops constantly and irregularly with C1 23 (16.3.1) and my 2018 MBP running current version Ventura 13.6.  I've tried using three cables (all USB C to C, I don't have an RJ45 to USB C to test), including a brand new TetherTools 15' that I keep as a backup.  All three of these cables work consistently with Sony A7RIV body regardless of the port I plug into.  I've tried all four ports in my MBP to see if there's a power issue in one of them, but they all do it.  All three of these cables work consistently with Sony A7RIV body regardless of the port I plug into.  Usually I can re-connect by just pulling cable and plugging back in, I don't need to restart C1 or camera to re-acquire camera for at least one capture.  Have also tried resetting GFX body to factory defaults, and have tried quitting/restarting C1 but still have same connection drop issues.  Important to note that I have no issues with any of the laptop ports with my XF and IQ3.  Also FWIW I tried testing the auto bracket feature on GFX and when capturing from C1 you only get the first exposure only, and about half the time the connection drops.   Focus stacking ("focus bracketing" in Fuji speak) also gets you only the first capture.

Unfortunately it's completely unusable on the job.  Hope this helps!  Jason

Have you tried using a TetherBlock, or something similar?
