Capture One 22 upgrade problems
I just installed the upgrade of Capture One 22 but it will not start. There is a message that „frameworks for.NET“ is missing on my PC (Windows 10). Clicking the button does not have any effect. I have tried to install this component from the Microsoft homepage, but I receive a message that the latest version is already installed.
I still have my original Capture One 20 on my system and is running fine.
What can I do?

V20 is Running on the new license key, indeed, but only after I deinstalled V22 and reinstalled it again. After reinstalling V22 the same problem occurred. I have run a registry cleaner in the hope of solving the problem, to no effect. V20 is running okay…
Were can I dig deeper (I am no PC nerd)?0 -
Thank for your reply.
I am using two Dell PCs - a desktop and a notebook. After running into problems with the installation on my notebook (newer than the desktop) I have not try installing V 22 on my desktop. On both PCs Windows is up to date by regular automatic updates.0 -
Hi,
I have the same or a very similar issue. Computer was in repair where the disk was wiped and Windows was installed new. When I got it back this week and installed Capture One Pro 22 it also only showed the window that .NET is missing and didn't do anything else independent on which button I pressed.
Computer is also a Dell (Alienware to be precise). Don't know if that is a coincidence or the reason.
I did all the updates that I was aware of/shown (by Windows update as well as Dell SupportAssist), uninstalled and reinstalled Capture One several times (both with the previously working 15.3.0 as well as the new 15.3.2 installer).
Checked .NET framework, have 4.8 installed (and in the meantime also 3.5 for another application), and also added/deleted packages in the control panel for testing.
Also repaired existing VC redistribution packages, updated the latest one (x86) and also installed the x64 version of that latest one (that was mentioned somewhere else as an issue). Didn't help in my case.
Interestingly enough this morning Windows update showed a whole bunch of security updates (I wonder why not earlier). After those the problem still exists. However the message is no longer that .NET framework is missing but that some packages are missing: "To run this application, you must install missing frameworks for .NET.". Again choosing "yes" to install them didn't have an effect.
I will fiddle around more, but if someone has the answer or some ideas I would also be glad to hear them.

I have run Dell Support Assist, downloaded the latest Windows updates, deinstalled Capture One 22, ran a registry cleaner, re-installed Capture One 22 - same problem as before: an option box appears asking whether I want to install the supposedly missing framework for.NET. The box itself is inactive and disappears as soon as you press either yes or no.
As mentioned already, Capture One 20 is still running perfectly well. Is there a way to upgrade to V22 via the upgrade option that appears on opening V20?
Any ideas what do do?

The release notes mention .NET 4.7 being required. Perhaps try to install this?
While .NET 4.5 and onwards should be backwards compatible, this requires the application to provide a config file enabling it to use a (installed) higher version framework than the version it was developed on/for.edit: I looked into the config files for C1 and for some binaries it lists version 4.7.2
" <startup useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy="true">
<supportedRuntime version="v4.0" sku=".NETFramework,Version=v4.7.2" />"
In another place it mentions the newer .NET core 6 runtime.

My Windows system is already running on .NET 4.81. An attempt to install .NET 4.8 was unsuccessful because a newer version was already installed. I guess that one cannot simply backtrack to an older version of .NET? What is going to happen when the next windows update is due and the latest .NET gets installed? Would this cause V22 to crash?

You can have multiple version of .NET runtime installed and running side-by-side. You however cannot install multiple patch/minor level of the same version. So 3.5 and 4.7, yes, but 4.8 and 4.81 no. Sorry for missing that you already had 4.81.
Looking at my own PC, I have (via Windows features/patches) v3.5 and v4.8 but also .NET core 3.1.28 and .NET 6.0.8 (last two called "Microsoft Windows Desktop Runtime")
So since you already have .NET 4.81, I suggest installing the 6.0.8 runtime for desktop.
This runtime should be kept up to date using Windows Update. (I have "receive updates for other Microsoft products when you update Windows" enabled in the Advanced options of the Windows Update menu).1 -
Thanks for the hint with .NET 6. Was sceptical (as all talk about 4.x) but it did the job for me.
Note: I first used the wrong runtime version which didn't help at all. However, looking into the computer logs I found the error log from the Capture One start together with a link (that is unfortunately not shown in the error message). Following that link I could download a runtime version that did the job - Capture One 22 is now starting for me again. :)So thank you for your help. And good luck to the thread creator that this also helps him to get Capture One running again.
P.s.: I didn't use Propheticus link (but the one from the log on my system). However, on first glimpse it seems to show to the same page that worked for me.

I had ALL the same problems as the others and the .NET 6 worked perfectly. It would be useful if the Capture One folks would suggest that same fix.

installing NET 6 also fixed this for me as I was having the same exact problem. (WIN10, upgrading from Capture One 21 to 22. Dell Desktop
