Capture One iPad camera dissapears
Hi,
I just got back from a weekend shooting portraits at a convention. I shot for two full days totalling roughly 1k images, all tethered to Capture One iPad. The absolute majority of the time it worked absolutely amazing, but three times during the weekend the camera just dissapered. Nothing I did made capture one notice that there was a camera attached, then about 5 minutes later it started to appear by showing the memory card. Then a restart of the camera made it appear and connection was established. This of course is a mayor issue for me as I have people in line, waiting 5 minutes is not an option, and also causes lots of extra stress on me.
My setup: Nikon D810, tethertool cable into USB hub connected to iPad Pro M1 model. I could sort of relate the issue to when I pulled the camera from the ipad iPad, switching out the hub to a SD reader to offload some images I took from other locations. I can not say its definetely this that does it, but it could be related to it.
The issue: Camera does not show up in C1. The camera think it is connected and is tethering so the camera trigger will not take any images. Probably due to no app accepting the command to fire the camera. Pulling the tether cable will fire the camera. No other apps will show the camera either when in this state (I tested Lightroom and Files) . I tried restarting C1, restarting the iPad, restarting the camera, pulling the camera battery, using another USB hub, connecting tether cable directly to USB-c port on iPad. Nothing works. Then after about 5 minutes of trouble shooting the camera shows up again, I can not deduce why, if I did something or not.
I have extensive SW engineering background. Based on my experiences I would think that the problem is somewhere in the USB driver area, perhaps C1 does not release the driver or similar and then a iOS watchdog kicks in after a couple of minutes? It does not explain why the problem still exists after a restart though, but I don't know iOS at a programmatic level at all.

Hi Johan – I've created a support ticket for this, as I think it's something better handled by our support agents with the information provided being handed to R&D. We can make the app better with this kind of feedback, so I hope you don't mind!
