Not an Upgrade to 22? $10 More Per Month for 23?
So this isn't just an upgrade available to those of us who have been paying for a v22 license all this time? We need to pay more now to access v23? It looks like about $10 per month more? Will you now stop developing v22? If so this is an awesome way to force a license increase to all of us who thought we were set!! It's like starting all over - no benefit at all for being a previous, dedicated customer? Or am I missing something?

Are you on a subscription plan (since you mention "per month") or did you buy a version license?
If you're on a subscription plan, there's no additional cost. You just download the new version and enter your current subscription license.
If you own a license for a specific version (v22), then of course you will have to pay to upgrade to v23. That's no different than any other software. Full-version upgrades always require payment. However, with a v22 license, you would qualify for an upgrade discount. You should be able to see how much that is in your account: https://www.captureone.com/en/account/upgrade. The question is, do you actually need to upgrade? Do you need these "groundbreaking" (not) new features? Save yourself some money and stay on v22.
And yes, of course, v22 development is done, now that v23 is out. The dev team can barely support one version, let alone two. But v22 runs stable and whatever features it has, keep using those. Just don't buy a newly released camera because that is the only thing that will force you to upgrade because it will eventually only be supported in the latest version of CaptureOne.

Except when I did that, i.e, entering the current license code because I have an annual subscription, it says invalid license; forcing me into trial mode. In my point of fact, I have an annual subscription which is verified by an order and a license key associated with that order. Yet, Capture One 23 doesn't recognize that license key.
What is the solution to this irritating problem?

@Ryan, that sounds like a bug. Licensing problems do happen from time to time and especially when a new version is released. I would contact CaptureOne directly via support request on top of the page: Submit a request.
