Perpetual license upgrade discount?
I should only have to pay an upgrade price for the new features, not the full product.
Why isn't there a price break for perpetual license upgrades?

Because they have become very greedy when the product is not developing very much in terms of innovation.. Not only is there a subscription. So they also decided this year to disappoint thousands of their customers and prevent them from upgrading their old product to a new one at a discount.
Here is their answer to me from support:
"Black Friday discount is only applicable to the upgrades bundled with styles. If you do not plan to purchase styles, I would suggest subscribing to our newsletter to make sure you receive updates on our future discount campaigns, hopefully more relevant for you."
So don't count on discounts from them this year. Not only did they introduce almost nothing of the significant innovations in version 22, but the changes in version 23 are more in the form of optimizations and cosmetic improvements. Despite this, they do not now give a normal discount for these minor improvements.

The full price of a perpetual license is or would be actually €349, the update price IS reduced indeed. There was an high discounted offer before release and there is discounted bundle with some styles at the moment.
In contrast to Maksim I see some very interesting new features in version 23. And this upgrade prooves to be very stable even on Windows, what was not usual the years before.
Kind regards

Perpetual license user for 4 years. Last year I paid $181 CAD for the upgrade and now it is up to $277 or I can get it with the Styles pack on BF sale for $266.
Or, even worse, if I check the pricing in Incognito mode I see a new license is $249.
Makes no sense at all and punishes existing users.

I agree with the sentiment. The upgrade license is 199 for me here in the US. New license is available for 189 on B&H. This even though the updates are very superficial. I tried a trial version of '23 and my smart albums are still as slow as ever.
For now I instead upgraded DXO which offered significant discount.

Seems You buy discounts, not solutions.

Did You have a look at https://learn.captureone.com/blog-posts/6-features-in-capture-one-pro-23-to-get-excited-about/ ?

I buy good solutions for the best price. The price should be adequate, not overpriced. There are always competitors and market prices. It is necessary to take into account the market and give the best offer not only in terms of functions and quality, but also in terms of cost. I don't understand why for a few new features I have to essentially give another app cost to upgrade. The upgrade must not exceed half the price of the original application. So almost everywhere. But our Capture One seems to be special in terms of cost, but not in terms of innovation and improvements from version to version. Hence the resentment of customers.

There was a prerelease discount that took my upgrade price from 209 to 169EUR. Probably shouldv'e done that. Upgrading the perpetual is discounted, just not as much as subscription, which I would assume is a concious move by C1.

The subscription model is applicable only in a situation where the software constantly consumes external resources so that it can work. For example, the software is hosted on the company's servers and you have to constantly pay for their maintenance and service. Or you rent cloud space on servers every month. Or every month they give you something new, valuable and in demand. Then it is clear where the subscription money goes.
There is none of this in the Capture One situation. They just sell us the same software that they sold before. They release updates occasionally. There is nothing to pay for every month again and again. I installed the software on my computer and I don’t need any more resources from the company, except for rare updates.
In the situation of Capture One, there is nothing to constantly pay for again and again. So it's good that they have a perpetual license. This is the real value of their product.

BlackMagic Design is a standard of what software should be, its cost and support. I once paid $299 and received a panel for video editing as a gift. After buying 2 years I get all updates for free! Moreover, updates are very frequent and significant. And the Davinci Resolve program itself is several orders of magnitude more complicated than Capture One, and the price is cheaper. But it seems to me that the producers of Capture One do not care what we write and they will not hear us. They will only understand the language of a significant decline in sales and profits. In the meantime, someone consistently overpays them, then they will not have the motivation to change their pricing policy and actively improve the product.

Hello ! I bought Capture one pro 23 upgrade and paid 207,00 Euro. Now I have one Capture 12 for Sony. My license is not updated and the key does not fit. Did I do something wrong?
With best regards,
Larisa

You need to submit a request to Capture One support, not here. This forum thread discusses their discount promotion and why they are asking so much money for such small improvements to the program.

You are Right. This is an user2user forum only.

Interesting. I thought that this community was moderated by Capture One employees, collecting feedback on problems, helping clients solve them. But it turns out they don't care. Thank you, I will keep in mind that here users communicate only with themselves. 😃

Keep in mind that if you update your Captura One product from your account, then you will pay for it (on Black Friday) + $199 for the update.
But if you buy a new license with a Black Friday discount, the cost will be $179.
That is, buying a new one is cheaper than upgrading.
These are the wonders :-)

It looks to me like C1 is pushing toward add-ons and subscriptions. I, for one, will become a loyal customer once I sort the workflow out vs. other comparable applications. I am not a professional photographer and am looking for a simple method to enhance my focus area. C1 2022 may be suitable for my purpose; however, the jury is still out on which application I will end up using. I hope C1 sorts out its loyalty issue. In the meantime, keep the pressure on.
