Maybe just start again, backup them up,
delete them from current location within C1,
and then try the usual import into C1?

Nope, this is a bug in C1 16.0.1. When I went to mp4 files that hadn't been moved and still had their thumbnails, the instant I clicked on one of them the thumbnail vanished to be replaced by the bare icon. C1 can't be reading the metadata correctly. Thumbnails are present in other applications.

I just imported six DJI MP4s.
After import three had correct first frame thumbnails.
The other three had a generic artwork type thumbnail image.
If I right click on any of the six and select "Regenerate Previews"
a warning box comes up saying "Proxy Creation Failed".
All six played correctly in the viewer however.
So looks like there might be a C1 problem there.

To SFA: See my post immediately above yours. Clicking on an mp4 in C1 with a thumbnail causes the thumbnail to be replaced with a generic icon, but the thumbnail is still there when the video is played by other applications. So it transpires my problem had nothing to do with moving files as I originally thought. It's a bug in C1 v23.

I have now managed to sort this out. I am running Windows 11 22H2. In Folder Options (in File Explorer) I found the setting 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' was ticked. I did not tick this myself, so as far as I know it could always have been like this, but if it was it made no difference to thumbnails in previous versions of C1. Be that as it may, unticking this setting has brought back my video thumbnails. gb, if you are on Windows, I recommend you do this now!

Thanks Walter but that option was un-ticked already so no solution for me.
