Square crop for Instagram
Is there an easy way to default to a square crop choice, when culling a batch of images for Instagram? Right now, it seems I have to choose crop, then scroll down to square crop in the drop down. It adds up over a batch of images.

You can if you have an export recipe for Instagram with a square crop. There is a default recipe designed for IG but it is set up for width = 1080. You could create another one that is set up for Dimensions = 1080 x 1080. Then you can select that recipe and change the crop ratio to Output. That should do it.

Change the Crop Behavior in C1 preferences from Use Variant to Use Global.
This forces C1 to remember the last used crop aspect ratio.
You could also copy/apply the square crop to all the others.0 -
Ian Wilson Thanks. I've created a square crop recipe just for those Instagram situations. That should help. I already have a Photoshop action that creates a border to protect other orientations, but I hate going into PS unless absolutely necessary.
gb Thanks. I think this is what I was really looking for. I saw the option choice, but didn't understand what it did. I think the default used to be Global. Now I'm wondering why they switched to Variant.

Now I'm wondering why they switched to Variant.
Popular demand!
The rationale behind the Variant option is that if you crop Image A, for instance to 4x5 ratio, then move on to crop Image B as a 3x4 ratio, it is annoying when you go back to A and want to adjust it slightly if it suddenly goes to 3x4 instead of continuing with the 4x5 you had first set.
Really, which option suits you depends on your way of working.

Ian Wilson, well that does make sense. That's probably the way I normally work through a session folder. Making the vast majority conform to a single ratio is the outlier. I do remember now the mysterious "crop change" when going back to tweak an image. Thanks again.
