Importing Leica Images

I think that the image you see in the importer uses the embedded JPEG in the raw file. It may be that this cameras doesn't use a very high resolution for that.

And if Ian is right, which I believe he is, what can you do? Just import all images which you think might possibly be good and delete the bad ones in C1 later. It doesn't really matter but just to let you know, I always work this way.

I have the same problem with Leica M262 images, however not in the importer, but with the new culling feature.

There, the embedded JPEG preview images are also used, although Capture One has already generated preview images. It is a mystery to me why not those are used.
Especially as the culling feature could also be used very well to make a selection after editing. But since the editing is left out, this is not possible.

So this new feature is completely useless to me.

Maybe it's a good idea to write to Leica and ask them to upgrade their firmware to let the photographer choose a higher resolution for the embedded jpg?

Yes, that would be possible for the problem described by the author. The M-E 240 is not so old that they would no longer release updates for it.

For my problem, however, I see the responsibility clearly with Capture One. The use of embedded JPGEs of images that are already in the catalogue on the hard disk and no longer on the SD card, and for which CaptureOne's own preview images have already been generated, is not clear to me.

Thanks for the answers everyone. They were very helpful.

I will try to import all the files once and then sort them. I will also ask Leica to update the firmware.

Konstantin, isn't the culling view a step before you actually import the images? (I didn't upgrade to v23)

BeO - not necessarily. You can import some images, and then click the Cull button - you get the same "culling" view that you would get if you use it before import. However, in this case, if the problem is the low resolution of the JPGs embedded in the raw files, you would still see that low resolution as the embedded JPG is what the culling view uses. As I understand it, what Konstantin Krüger is suggesting is that for images that have already been imported, the culling view should use Capture One's preview instead of the embedded JPG. I presume that that would require some re-coding of the feature to enable it to work in two different ways depending on whether you are culling images pre-import or post-import.

Hi Ian, I see. Can you get all images which were imported into  the catalog or session into the "culling" view,  and does it have an advantage (to you) when identifying keepers and throwaways, or do the rating and tagging?

You can get anything you like into the culling view. But I don't use it anyway - too stuck in my old ways of working.
