New update C1 (today). How does a "repeater" solve the problem?

In today's update notes (Capture One 23 (16.1.2) release notes by Jack Williams) I read this "Live View over USB can stall without the use of a repeater" in the "Known Issues/Mac Users" section.

Is this referring to the problem I've been encountering with my GFX50R in Tether/Live View mode that leaves the camera frozen and the C1's AF not working?

How does a "repeater" solve the problem? Does it have to be a cable or can it be a USB Dock like the OWC Thunderbolt? 
With this one, the problem is solved?
