I do not think it is a ram issue. I have 32 gb and I still have the problem with some images. I have tried but I cannot id the type of image that causes the problem.

I found the solution. It is really obvious. I selected the images, and before I upgraded the engine I clicked on "Edit all Selected variants" Then I clicked on the upgrade command. It worked.
